Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA) is a national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting families and carers of individuals with eating disorders. Our mission is to provide education, resources, and a supportive community to empower families in navigating their loved one's recovery journey.
The National Support Program provides online support groups, and the Australian private Facebook forum. The program aims to provide a caring and compassionate space for carers to learn together and from each other as they navigate the recovery journey with the person they care for.
Reporting to the National Support Program Manager, the Support Program Coordinator (Western Australia) will play a pivotal role in establishing, managing, and facilitating online support programs tailored specifically to the needs of families and carers in WA. This role will also involve engaging with stakeholders to build relationships, raise awareness of EDFA’s programs, and strengthen the organisation’s presence in the state.
This role is ideally suited to an individual with lived experience as a carer of someone with an eating disorder and who is passionate about transforming that experience for other families.
As a national organisation, EDFA programs are delivered remotely. As such, this part-time role (0.6 FTE) can be carried out from any location in Western Australia.
Duties include:
Program Establishment and Coordination
- Develop and implement WA-specific online support groups in line with EDFA’s mission and strategic goals.
- Coordinate schedules, logistics, and communication for support group sessions.
- Ensure programs are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of WA families and carers
Facilitation
- Identify appropriate volunteer facilitators for online support groups and work with the National Support Program Manager to provide required peer work training and supervision.
- Facilitate online support group sessions, fostering a safe and supportive environment for participants.
- Provide guidance and resources to families and carers, connecting them to relevant information and services.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in WA, including health professionals, community organisations, and government agencies.
- Represent EDFA at local events, forums, and meetings to promote the organisation’s programs and initiatives.
Program Monitoring and Reporting
- Collect feedback from program participants to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of support groups.
- Provide regular reports to the National Program Manager on program outcomes, challenges, and opportunities.
Governance, compliance, and policy
- Adhere to strict confidentiality protocols and carer privacy requirements.
- Safeguard sensitive information, records, and documents appropriately.
- Continuous improvement – read and comply with all EDFA policies and procedures and understand any new or updated policies as issued from time to time. Input into continuous improvement initiatives for the betterment of EDFA, carers, and EDFA employees and volunteers.
- Promote and adhere to EDFA’s Vision, Mission, Values, behaviours, and expectations.
Quality and Safety
- Ensure all services and interactions adhere to best practice guidelines, professional standards, and EDFA’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality support to families.
- Identify and report any risks or incidents that may impact the safety, wellbeing, or quality of services delivered to EDFA members.
- Adhere to Commonwealth Child Safe Standards.
- WHS – Demonstrate commitment to the care, safety, and wellbeing of self, carers, and others in the work environment. Comply with safety in the workplace / remote working area and take reasonable steps to prevent risks to health and safety.
Autonomy and Teamwork
- Work autonomously, demonstrating excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the program and organisation by actively participating in team meetings, providing input, and suggesting process improvements.
- Attend relevant program and team meetings online or face-to-face, as required.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Essential
- Lived experience as a carer of someone living with an eating disorder.
- Demonstrated experience in group facilitation, particularly in an online environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage empathetically with families and carers.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote setting.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by families and carers of individuals with eating disorders.
- Proficiency in using digital platforms such as Zoom and other online communication tools.
- Willingness to work flexibly including evenings and occasional weekends to accommodate carer needs.
Desirable
- Relevant qualifications or experience in social work, psychology, counselling, community development, or a related field.
- Experience in peer work and/or training.
- Knowledge of the healthcare and community services landscape in Western Australia.
