The Youth Advocacy and Leadership Development Program Coordinator has two primary responsibilities. As a Youth Advocate, you'll create opportunities for engagement and development for disengaged youth, offering support that ranges from crisis intervention to sustained guidance in helping young people navigate their life journeys. Additionally, the coordinator oversees a monthly program aimed at cultivating young leaders, particularly those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds, empowering them to take an active role in their communities and in broader Australian society, while enhancing their participation in social, civic, and economic activities. Please note this position is 2 days a week and funded until 30th June 2025.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement and monitor progress of the delivery of the ERCWA Youth Advocacy and Leadership Development Program and implement program activities and strategies over the course of the program.
  • Advertise, inform, and enlist potential participants for the program.
  • Provide opportunities and active support for participants to join activities hosted by of a variety of organisations, including service providers, local clubs, associations, and community groups.
  • Provide opportunities for the mentored young people to become trainers – e.g., by delivering coaching or umpiring and other professional development sessions.
  • Assist in facilitating entry into employment opportunities provided primarily through programs offered by ERCWA and other organisations.
  • Provide referral and links to a range of youth services including health and well-being, employment/educational and recreational services.
  • Support the Youth Services Team Leader and Youth Coordinators by supporting identified participants who require additional support.
  • Supporting young people referred to ERCWA by WA Police, and other agencies.

Essential

  • 2+ years' experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated capacity to plan, schedule and meet agreed deadlines in the completion of duties.
  • Have (or be willing to obtain) a Working with Children Check.
  • Have (or be willing to obtain) a National Police Clearance Check.
  • Have a current driver's license and vehicle.
  • A Degree, Diploma, Certificate in community services, social work, social science or similar.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Effective strategic planning, organising, and time management skills.
  • Effective negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities including an understanding of issues faced by these communities.
  • Strong initiative in development of processes and practices to enhance program delivery.
  • Ability to network and bring together stakeholders and interested parties for effective program delivery.
  • Ability to build rapport with a diverse group of young people and their families, including cultural awareness and an understanding of issues faced by these communities
