Reconciliation Victoria is the statewide body promoting reconciliation and strengthening relationships with First Peoples across Victoria. This means we promote respect, self-determination and justice for and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our work is guided by local Aboriginal voices and focuses primarily on an audience of 97% of non-Indigenous Victorians.

We work closely with and facilitate connections with local reconciliation groups and other community groups, the education sector and state and local government partners. We promote reconciliation across Victoria and organise annual events and statewide reconciliation forums.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing Reconciliation Victoria's Murmuk Djerring (Working Together) Volunteers Program.

The Volunteers Program Coordinator provides an important function at Reconciliation Victoria. The role reports to the Office and Projects Manager and develops, implements and manages a best practice volunteer engagement program, whilst at the same time enhancing the volunteers’ journey and ensuring that our volunteer engagement is meaningful, inclusive and accessible.

You will be passionate about working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, have previous experience in developing and implementing a volunteer strategy and framework, have knowledge of best practice volunteer leadership and engagement and be familiar with the Australian national standards for volunteer involvement and best practice volunteer management.

Specifically, you will:

  • Support the ongoing development and implementation of Reconciliation Victoria’s volunteer engagement framework.
  • Develop a volunteer recruitment retention strategy and coordinate an effective end-to-end volunteer recruitment process.
  • Develop volunteer role descriptions and complete compliance checks before onboarding new volunteers.
  • Work with Volunteering Victoria to develop toolkits, training and other resources to enable sufficient support to new volunteers.
  • Manage the volunteer database and Reconciliation Victoria’s volunteer management system.
  • Ensure the volunteer engagement framework and project work is informed by local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices.
  • Strengthen Reconciliation Victoria’s relationships and partnerships with First Peoples, cultural knowledge specialists and broader businesses.
  • Ensure volunteer engagement is inclusive, accessible and diverse.
  • Support Reconciliation Victoria’s events such as webinars, National Reconciliation Week and Forums as well as responding to queries from the public and external reporting.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who demonstrates the following:

  • Awareness and passion about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community engagement and protocols.
  • Prior experience working in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Familiarity with the Australian national standards for volunteer involvement and best practice volunteer management and engagement.
  • Enthusiasm and passion about volunteering and ability to develop, coach and empower volunteers.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in Volunteer Management, Human Resources, Learning & Development or Community Development would be highly regarded.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Trello, Skype, Zoom and Sharepoint.
  • 3+ years experience working in a similar volunteer-based role (experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities will be highly regarded but not essential).
  • Ability to prioritise workload, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, share information, use initiative, manage any roadblocks and work autonomously.
  • High level of accuracy with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills with a range of stakeholders, different cultures and people with different working styles.
  • Excellent people and volunteer management skills with an ability to create and contribute to positive team culture.
  • Empathetic and considerate, and can demonstrate concern and respect for other’s feelings and ideas.
