About Us:

Eastern Victoria GP Training (EVGP Training) is a Not For Profit regional training provider funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health to deliver the Australian General Practice Training Program. The Program is a world class vocational training program for medical graduates wishing to pursue a career in general practice.

About the Role:

The Project Officer will provide support for, and in some cases drive, various aspects of the work of the Aboriginal Health Team (AHT) at Eastern Victoria GP Training, which are:

  1. Overseeing the attainment of deliverables of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
  2. Providing administrative support to the AHT’s research project work, and
  3. Supporting the day to day functions of the AHT to ensure alignment to and attainment of the Aboriginal Health Training Strategic Plan initiatives.

The activities of this position are supported by other AHT members and established groups, namely the RAP Working Group, the Research Project Steering Committee and the Aboriginal Health Training Advisory Group. The incumbent will fill a secretariat role for the groups.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reconciliation Action Plan activities including:
    • Monitoring the deliverables of the RAP and initiating activity.
    • Acting as a central point of contact for RAP.
    • Facilitating the functions of the RAP Working Group and maintaining RAP Action Plans.
  • Research activities including:
    • Supporting senior project personnel in all aspects of the research project.
    • Facilitating the functions of the Steering Committee by organising meetings, preparing meeting documentation and following up on actions as appropriate.
  • Aboriginal Health Strategic Plan work including:
    • Supporting the cultural educator team’s involvement in/attendance at key workshops by organising accommodation and travel.
    • Collaborating with the local Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services for the purpose of monitoring registrar placements.
    • Assisting with the selection of registrar placements for the 2023 training year.
    • Facilitating the functions of the Aboriginal Health Training Advisory Group.
  • General tasks including:
    • Maintaining systems and tools that report activity and monitor timelines.
    • Preparing regular written reports and promotional articles relative to the three areas of responsibility, including the end of RAP life report.
    • Working with the AHT to influence strategic, operational and educational decisions that demonstrate Eastern Victoria GP Training’s commitment to the development of a culturally competent workplace and workforce.

Required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated past success in managing a short term project.
  • Knowledge and understanding of, and empathy for, the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Demonstrated high level organisational skills in an administrative role.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and listening skills, plus the ability to successfully negotiate, problem solve, and make decisions as appropriate to the role/task.
  • High level report writing ability and experience in analysing activity and producing reports for a variety of audiences.
  • Able to work independently, and as part of a team, using initiative and self-direction appropriate to the position, so that consistent high quality work and team cohesiveness results, and that goals of role are attained.
  • Proficient in the use of the MS Office suite of products, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with a Reconciliation Action Plan and/or in a GP Training environment would be highly regarded.
