Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB) is a for-purpose organisation with our National Office and staff team located in Melbourne and volunteer chapters in Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and ACT.

Established in Australia in 2004, EWB works with First Nation’s Communities in Australia, with communities in the Asia Pacific region with national offices in Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Vanuatu. We have three major focus areas:

  1. developing technology to alleviate poverty and accelerate inclusive sustainable development in Australia and overseas;
  2. redefining engineering as a profession providing stewardship and leadership for a more equitable and sustainable world and;

Role Purpose

We are seeking a creative and motivated Learning Experience Designer to join our Melbourne team. This role will be pivotal in developing, delivering and strengthening our learning programs, resources and training modules that support our mission and impact goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instructional design, a passion for global development, and a commitment to creating and delivering transformative learning experiences.

This role will be responsible for the delivery of existing learning programs and will support the development and delivery of new learning products (including e-modules). The role will be responsible for streamlining current onboarding systems, stakeholder engagement, systems design and management, financial planning, safety planning, pastoral care and monitoring, evaluation and ongoing improvement of training programs. This role work with the Education Program Lead and Coordinator to support student learning pathway and cultivate student cohorts for EWB immersive learning experiences.

Summary

EWB’s Learning Experience Designer is part of the EWB Education and Learning Program team and will work closely with program Leads and Managers, the EWB Engineering and in-country teams to ensure learning programs are effectively delivered. EWB training activities develop the skills, capabilities, and mindsets of participants so they are better prepared to contribute to a world where technology benefits all. As these training activities take different forms to meet the requirements of each audience, the Learning Experience Designer will work in close collaboration with program leads to shape and deliver their work.

The EWB 2030 strategy and EWB’s approach to technology development will support and inform EWB’s training offerings. EWB’s Learning Experience Designer will ensure training activities align with EWB’s vision, brand, and impact reporting.

As EWB’s Learning Experience Designer your work will be a key enabler of those who are looking to EWB to learn, to appropriately contribute to community outcomes, and to align with the vision of a world where technology benefits all.

Key responsibilities

  1. Design and Development: Lead the design, development and delivery of EWB’s training programs in face-to-face and virtual formats. Create engaging and transformative learning materials, interactives and multi-media content such as e-learning modules.
  2. Program Implementation: Systems management, monitoring and evaluation to support the roll out and continuous improvement of learning programs.
  3. Collaboration: Facilitation and stakeholder engagement with key university, corporate and community partners to ensure the effective development and delivery of new and ongoing domestic and international offerings. People management and risk management to ensure participant safety.
  4. Research and Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in instructional design and educational technology.
  5. Financial planning: Generation of revenue and budget management.
  6. Selection Criteria

You will have demonstrated success in and/or proven knowledge in:

  • design and deliver training to targeted audiences;
  • design efficient and reliable information and financial management systems;
  • building safe learning environments that support participants to thrive;
  • engineering, sustainability, appropriate technology, and/or development practice;
  • relationship management and co-creating value with diverse stakeholders;
  • facilitating participatory workshops with varied audiences and delivering lectures;
  • engaging with students to facilitate learning outcomes associated with technology stewardship and sustainable development practice.

This role will require you to:

  • bring strong teamwork skills to a highly collaborative environment;
  • contribute to the creation of safe learning environments where participants can challenge their own assumptions and biases;
  • be / become deeply knowledgeable in EWB’s approach to working with communities and technology development;
  • seek opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of EWB training and learning program.
  • proactively engage with EWB’s network with a particular focus on universities.
  • travel internationally as part of EWB’s education programs.
