Family Drug Support

FDS seeks a motivated Family Support Worker to maintain and expand the service in Melbourne and surrounding areas, providing support to families and carers affected by alcohol and other drugs.

FDS offers a part-time (14-hour P/W) position, working some weekends and weeknights.

Location of position: Victoria and travelling where required, as directed by the Victoria Clinical Services Manager and CEO.

Key Activities

  • Manage, promote and facilitate Family Support Groups (in the evenings around the metropolitan and regional areas)
  • Networking, engagement & professional relationship building with relevant sector contacts as well as wider community organisations
  • Deliver information sessions to families, workers and the community – Stepping Forwards
  • Delivery of FDS professional workshop - Support the Family-Improve the Outcome
  • Facilitate our 4-day intensive course for families – Stepping Stones
  • 1:1 support sessions via phone, online or face to face
  • Organise, host/co-host events
  • Timely administrative and reporting duties
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Planner and Team Meetings, and online platforms such as Mailchimp and Eventbrite.
  • Participate in supervision and debriefing sessions with colleagues and management

Education and Experience

  • Pertinent qualifications of Counselling, Social Work, AOD/Mental Health or similar
  • Some experience in similar roles, placement or volunteer work
  • Graduates are encouraged to apply

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • Active listening and/or motivational interviewing familiarity
  • High level of administration and reporting competency
  • Excellent computer literacy and willingness to solve problems independently
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Willingness to drive regionally for over 3 hours in one day
  • Understanding of and commitment to Harm Minimisation and the FDS model
  • Ability to connect with and provide support to VIC volunteers
  • Attendance at our Annual Volunteers Workshop
  • Unencumbered driver’s licence

Desirable Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in working with families on and AOD and MH setting
  • Support group or counselling experience
  • Working with diverse communities
  • Advocacy work
  • Education delivery

Training & Support

FDS will provide full training and support in the FDS model and its programs

You will be required to undertake a complete induction process, including orientation and training (possibly interstate)

Remuneration

The salary package depends on demonstrated skills, including qualifications and experience based on the Social, Community, Home

Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 Level 4 plus superannuation with an option to salary sacrifice. A mobile telephone and laptop will be supplied for business purposes.

Contract

An initial 12-month contracted period will be negotiated with the successful candidate, with the possibility of extension dependent on funding. There will be a 6-month probationary period.
