True’s Child and Family Service in Cairns is looking for an experienced Counsellor/Case Manager to work with Young people aged 12 -18 and their families.
As a Counsellor / Case Manager with the Cairns True Youth Sexual Violence Service, you will:
- Provide confidential trauma-informed counselling and psychoeducation to young people 12 -18 years who have experience sexual abuse; have problematic sexual behaviours or engage in harmful sexual behaviours.
- Provide confidential counselling face-to-face; by virtual / digital platforms; in the office or community spaces; in line with Ture’s policies and procedures.
- Provide confidential counselling and support to the young person’s non-offending family members / carers / support networks.
- Provide personal safety education and safety planning.
- Provide case management services to young people and their families to enhance their belonging and connection within community, across multiple sectors

Selection criteria:
- Experience in counselling young people and family members who have experienced trauma.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or Behavioural Sciences.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and ethical requirements for working in the area of child sexual abuse or assault.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Trauma informed practice and best practice principles when working with in the area of child sexual abuse and Harmful Sexual behaviours.
- Demonstrated knowledge / understanding of Problematic Sexual Behaviours and Harmful Sexual Behaviours in children and young people
- Demonstrated understanding of cross-cultural issues (primarily those relating to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture) in providing counselling and support services to children, families and communities who have experienced sexual assault.
- Experience in working within or in partnerships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations.
- Experience in Case Management roles with children, young people and families.
- Evidence of membership/registration with respective professional body.
Other requirements:
- A current Criminal history check will be required to be presented at interview.
The successful applicant is required to have a current “Working with Children – Blue card, issued in the State of Queensland and provide evidence of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before commencing employment.
