The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) (Court) is the biggest and busiest court in the federal judicial system, having broad jurisdiction across areas including family law, migration, bankruptcy, fair work, administrative law, intellectual property and consumer law. Sitting in all capital cities, the Court comprises 87 judges, hundreds of legal, social science and related support staff, and has the largest proportion of migration filings in the federal jurisdiction.

The Court recently secured funding for the creation of innovative new roles to improve access to justice for culturally and linguistically diverse litigants in migration proceedings, where 79% of applicants are unrepresented and many face significant barriers to engaging with the justice system.

We are seeking a dynamic leader to build and oversee a team of Cultural Liaison Officers (CLOs) to support diverse court users to effectively engage with the court process, understand the role of the Court in migration matters, and obtain appropriate legal and social support throughout their court journey.

The Director – Cultural Liaison Officers will mentor and support the CLO team, foster strong internal relationships with Judges, Judicial Registrars and registry staff, and develop external partnerships with legal and social service providers and community organisations. The successful applicant will also collaborate with other senior leaders within the Court, contribute to the improvement of policies and procedures, and lead education and training initiatives and special projects aimed at improving access to justice.

In addition to rewarding work in leading a dynamic, collaborative national team, we offer an attractive remuneration package in the range of $146,819 – $171,609 per annum, including 15.4% superannuation.
