Wildlife Unlimited has been delivering ecological consulting and on-ground environmental management since 1996. In 2023 with the support of Ecolands Collective, Wildlife Unlimited transitioned to a Not-for-Profit organisation, meaning all our work now contributes to achieving our principal purpose: Supporting our natural environment and communities to flourish.

Based in Bairnsdale on Gunai Kurnai Country our team of highly experienced Ecologists operate throughout Victoria working with a range of clients across government, non-government, non-profit and for-purpose, private/philanthropic organisations. We provide a range of services including comprehensive environmental research, education, feral animal management and biodiversity surveys.

This role and our organisation are deeply rooted in and empowered by a growing Gippsland based conservation network across Victoria and into southern NSW.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Following a change in business structure in 2023, we are seeking a Business Operations Manager to provide essential professional operational and administrative management to our 14 strong team, complimenting our expert field and ecological leadership.

The Business Operations Manager role will ensure the success, growth and financial sustainability of the organisation, centralising core management and reporting functions including; HR, OHS, IT, Finance and Marketing activities. The role will help us streamline business operations and decision-making and work in direct collaboration with our internal teams, business consultants, accountants, and other external support to ensure the seamless and strategic functioning of the organisation.

Alongside our two Principal Ecologists, you’ll lead our team and a positive workplace culture through essential policy and procedure development, system review, strategic planning, communications and collaboration - helping to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of WU.

You’ll lead the development and implementation of processes, with a specific focus on financial and project oversight, and continuous improvement of organisational policies and procedures. This role will also play an important coaching role to our internal leaders, helping to elevate the professional and operational effectiveness of what we do, while simultaneously benefiting from their expertise.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking an individual with strong organisational, financial and business management skills, capable of developing strategic plans and actions in collaboration with the internal and external stakeholders to meet our purpose and objectives.

This role will suit a collaborative leader and a highly organised individual with the ability to manage our day to day administrative activities as well as see the bigger picture, working through and actioning the detail autonomously. Your contribution will be fundamental in ensuring successful operations in accordance with WU guidelines, with a focus on governance, quality, and sustainable financial management.

  1. A relevant tertiary or other qualification in business, leadership, HR or similar (or equivalent experience)
  2. Experience and demonstrated performance working in a senior leadership / management position across core functions of HR, OHS, IT and Finance
  3. An understanding of organisational compliance requirements for a non profit (charitable) business, evidenced delivery of proactive compliance planning and reporting excellence for Board consideration
  4. Demonstrated capacity to critically review, improve and support effective and efficient business operations and systems at all levels, including administrative, financial, communication and strategic business performance processes
  5. Previous experience in people management, including performance development and HR practices in compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work as part of and effectively lead in a fast paced project delivery environment to achieve both individual and organisational performance objectives

This position has the following specific requirements as a condition of appointment:

  • Current Driver's License or the ability to travel independently without limitation
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident or hold a valid work permit or visa
  • Conditional on the completion of 2 professional reference checks
  • Applicants will be subject to a probation period of six months
  • Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend a pre-employment medical or fitness-to-work declaration
  • All new appointments are subject to a 100-point Proof of Identity Check prior to commencement and throughout the term of employment
