Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA) is the largest representative body for the $13.7 billion fundraising sector. Members include charities and other not-for-profits operating domestically and internationally, as well as suppliers and professionals who provide services and support to the sector. FIA advocates for the interests of the sector, administers the system of self-regulation including the Code, educates fundraising practitioners, promotes research and creates forums for the exchange of knowledge.

FIA is seeking an Independent Chair for the Code Authority (CA) who will play an important role in ensuring the effective operation and governance of the Code, overseeing compliance, complaints handling, and regulatory engagement.

The FIA Code is a voluntary, self-regulatory code of conduct for fundraising in Australia. It aims to raise standards of conduct across the sector by going beyond the requirements of government regulation. Its content is informed by the International Statement of Ethical Principles in Fundraising.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and governance.
  • Code compliance and oversight.
  • Code review and amendments.
  • Analysis.
  • Stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide guidance on education and training.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in governance, compliance, or regulatory roles, preferably in the non-profit sector is desirable.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and consensus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Sound understanding of ethical principles, regulatory standards, and best practices in self-regulation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding integrity, fairness, and transparency.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., law, business, non-profit management).
  • Previous experience serving on or chairing regulatory bodies, ethics committees, or similar governance structures.
  • Familiarity with fundraising practices, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in the non-profit sector is highly desirable.
