ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Strategy & Finance Manager is one of four senior leadership roles reporting to the Firesticks Board. The role is the organisations corporate services lead and is responsible for business strategy, financial management and oversees human resources and fundraising.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualifications in accounting or business administration, or minimum 5 years equivalent business experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA and who are CA/CPA qualified
  • A thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, financial modelling, experience in creating financial statements tailored to the specific requirements of the organisation, and experience with general ledger and routine accounting processes
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships
  • Commercial and business awareness
  • A keen eye for detail and desire to probe further into data
  • Ability to meet time constraints
  • Experience working as part of an executive team
  • A high level of written and oral communication skills

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Strategy & Finance Manager will be responsible for all business strategy, financial management and will oversee human resources and fundraising.

Governance

  • Support the operations of the FAIC board and sub-committees
  • Coordinate quarterly board meetings and act as Secretariat for the FAIC Board and sub-committees
  • Work with the board and SLT to review and monitor the corporate strategic plan

Compliance & Legal

  • Responsible for undertaking and developing protocols to assist in meeting organisational and governance compliance
  • Ensure policies and procedures are in place, reviewed and updated to meet legal requirements
  • Ensure compliance around ORIC, membership communication and Board Member terms

Financial Management

  • Collect, interpret, and review financial information
  • Predict future financial trends
  • Reporting to management and stakeholders, and providing advice how the company and future business decisions might be impacted
  • Develop long-term governance strategies based on these reports
  • Develop, Review, monitor, and manage budgets
  • Develop strategies that work to minimise financial risk
  • Ensure all required financial information is prepared and presented on time
  • Develop and submit required reports for ACNC and ORIC
  • Report financial results to the Board of Directors
  • Develop, maintain and monitor cash balances and cash forecasts
  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate for operations
  • Review and approve fortnightly transactions, payments and payroll (second approver signatory)

Risk Management

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the organisation’s risk profile ∙
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with WHS requirements under the WHS Act
  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the organisation, and legal issues affecting the sector
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage and engage with Industry to ensure insurance is adequate and meets regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that the organisation complies with all legal, regulatory, contract, and grant requirements
  • Ensure that record-keeping meets the requirements of auditors, the ACNC, ORIC, government agencies, donors, grant providers and investors
  • Report risk issues to the Finance, audit and risk management committee of the Board of Directors
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations to provide to the FARM committee

Planning & Strategy

  • Assist in formulating the organisation’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives as part of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of a corporate strategic plan and business plans
  • Develop financial and tax strategies
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes
  • Develop models, systems, and processes that maximise the financial performance of all revenue streams
  • Develop financial performance measures and monitoring systems that support the organisation's strategic direction

Marketing, Fundraising & Partnerships

  • Promote and manage online crowdfunding campaign, including regular communications and engagement with campaign donors
  • Manage and support relationships with large donors and third parties holding events/activities on Firestick’s behalf
  • Lead grant applications and other key opportunities for fundraising
  • Manage the relationship with associated stakeholders, including fundraising licenses, financial reconciliation and liaising with Board and staff

Human Resources

  • Oversight of human resources management
  • Oversight of Health and Safety System

Reporting

  • Assist the Senior Leadership Team in monthly, quarterly and annual reporting

TIME COMMITMENT

This is a full-time employment contract (5 days/per week) with a duration of 12 months with a view to extending to 3 years, commencing end of February / mid-end March 2022.

To successfully fulfil their job requirements, the successful candidate will be sometimes required to travel within Australia and work outside normal work hours.

LOCATION

This is a remote based opportunity, we will consider applicants who are located in QLD, NSW, VIC & TAS.

REMUNERATION

  • This is a 12-month fixed term contract with the Firesticks Alliance.
  • Base Salary is $120,000 per annum plus superannuation and allowances (TFR $155,000).
  • Extension beyond 12 months is subject to external funding.
