Overview

The Assembly’s objective is to promote the self-determination and empowerment of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians in the Treaty process, including by:

  • Acting as the First Peoples’ Representative Body to negotiate and agree Statewide Treaty and Interim Agreements,
  • Acting as the Aboriginal Representative Body to support Treaty negotiations (including administering the Self-Determination Fund),
  • Enabling Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians to exercise sovereignty, the right to self-determination and other rights; including those contained in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)

Role function / Qualifications / Experience

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain trusted relationships with Assembly Members.
  • Support effective communication between Assembly Members and Staff.
  • Provide support and advice to Members to support them to undertake their portfolio and representative responsibilities in relation to the achievement of the Minimum Standards for treaty negotiation, to support treaty preparedness and negotiation, and deliver on Chamber Directives and priorities.
  • Support the induction of new Assembly Members.
  • Provide support to Members to assist them to undertake their portfolio and representative responsibilities in relation to the achievement of the Minimum Standards for treaty negotiation, to support treaty preparedness and negotiation, and deliver on Chamber Directives and priorities.
  • Act as a key point of contact between Members and Assembly Staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of communications and supporting materials to support Members to undertake strategic stakeholder engagement activity to undertake their portfolio and representative responsibilities in support of the achievement of Minimum Standards and treaty making.
  • Seek advice as required from the Office of the General Counsel.
  • Support the delivery of Assemble elections.
  • Support Members to prepare for Assembly meetings and events.
  • Work with Communication functions to develop, produce and disseminate communications materials.
  • Work with Business Services to coordinate Member travel and accommodation.
  • Work with Community Consultation & Engagement to coordinate events.
  • Undertake other duties as directed.

Influence & Action:

  • Navigate complex relationships, community politics and manage competing priorities to achieve objectives and strategic outcomes.
  • Collect and share ideas and information through collaboration with the Council, Members, and staff who play a critical role in furthering the Assembly’s objectives.
  • Promote and support the achievement of core values and build upon the reputation of the Assembly.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skill and capacity to work effectively and with integrity in the context of a Victorian First Peoples’ Representative Body..
  • Current open driver’s license.
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Job Type: Ongoing, Full-time

Salary range: From $73,842 (FTE) plus salary packaging, and superannuation, based on experience and expertise
