The Assembly is looking for an infectiously enthusiastic organiser to join its comms team to harness the support of organisations, businesses and individuals willing and able to support the Assembly and help build public support for the shared journey to Treaty in Victoria.

Team function
Manages external communications and public relations, and produces content for earned, paid and social media and Assembly materials, to build the Assembly’s public profile and enrolment base, and public support for Treaty in Victoria.
Role function
To grow and coordinate the Assembly’s ally-building activities and various partnerships to help encourage enrolments, and reach more people to increase public awareness and support for Treaty in Victoria.
Key duties
- Coordinating the Assembly’s ally-building activities, including organising public talks and presentations to Non-Government Organisations, Councils, volunteers, etc.
- Promoting and overseeing the Friends of Treaty initiative.
- Assisting with the production of related materials.
- In conjunction with the Communications Manager, work with elected Members/Co-Chairs to periodically update the ally-building strategy and workplans.
- Help coordinate and harness ally NGO’s advocacy and audiences to build public support for Treaty.
- Oversee the Assembly’s Community sponsorship programs.
- Seek out, develop and maintain other strategic partnerships – such as partnerships with Victorian AFL clubs, etc.
- Outreach to prominent/influential Community members, and potentially allies, for ambassador type advocacy and promotional activities.
- Contributing to the maintenance of the Assembly’s Customer Relationship Management system and other record keeping and communication tools.
- Assist with the Assembly’s online merchandise store and range.
- Other miscellaneous communications and promotional duties as directed.
Selection Criteria
- Dedication to the pursuit of self-determination for First Peoples
- Deep understanding of First Peoples communities and politics in Victoria
- Experience working constructively with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Strong understanding of Victorian politics
- Experience working on campaigns or advocacy and reform
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proven ability to work quickly and under pressure
- Good project and time management skills
