Fitzroy Lions Soccer Club (FLSC) is a community-focused soccer club that uses sport as a vehicle for powerful social change and unites young people of all backgrounds through the 'world game'. We are about more than just football – our ethos is to bring the community together and show that our diversity is our strength.
We provide a supportive, positive environment for players to discover soccer, build their confidence and social connections, and develop important life skills.
One of our core missions is to remove any barriers to accessing organised sport and ensure all young people have the opportunities they need to thrive. That's why FLSC is completely free to play – the only registered soccer club in Australia to offer this. No club fees, no registration fees, and all kit is provided free of charge.
Alongside our junior teams, we also run community outreach and after-school programs.
We are seeking enthusiastic coaches to ensure Fitzroy Lions can continue to meet growing demand and serve the community.
Our coaches are part of our community, so ideally we are looking for people who want to play a mentoring and leadership role for our kids and families.
We understand that people are busy and may not be able to commit to a 'full time' team role. For coaches, all we ask in terms of continuity is that you are able to attend at least one session per month.
Coaching roles involve planning and executing structured training sessions tailored for the age and ability of the group, managing the team on match days (warm up, team selection, substitutes etc) and supporting our emerging players in their development.
A typical training session would involve a welcome/outline, warm up, skills-based activities, a match/other fun games, finishing with a session wrap-up. Coaches would be expected to set up the activities, lead the session with clear instructions, and provide plenty of encouragement to players. No direct coaching experience is required, but an understanding of soccer and/or experience working with kids is desirable.
We train on Wednesday evenings in Clifton Hill (6-7.30pm) and play on Sunday mornings in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
All volunteers require a current working with children check.
