THE EMPLOYER

The Operations Manager position will play a core role in the co-management team to ensure the effective and smooth business operations of the Canberra Food Cooperative Shop and Café for both members and customers. The Co-op is seeking a team player with excellent communication and administrative skills with experience in managing operations. The role will be 20 hours spread across a minimum of 3 days working out of the Food Cooperative premises in Acton.
YOUR DUTIES
Under direction of The Food Co-op Board your duties include:
- Operation and Maintenance of Shop, Café and Kitchen infrastructure and equipment including maintaining relationships with contractors
- Updating, developing and ensuring compliance to policies and procedures within food cooperative operations
- Overseeing general business, office and IT administration
- Managing Food Cooperative general email correspondence and staff communications
- Supervision of the paid kitchen and supporting staff at the Co-op
- Managing relationships with contractors and support services for the Co-op
- Processing and raising invoices with support from the book-keeper
- Presiding over tenancy, body corporate, and insurance matters
- Maintaining good work health safety (WHS) & risk management procedures for all working members and staff
- Attend monthly board meetings and write reports as required
- Contribute to relevant grant applications and lead Co-op projects as appropriate
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Experience with running operations for small business or not-for-profit
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with diverse audiences
- Strong administrative and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively and good time management
- The ability to work effectively as part of a small team
- Experience of and commitment to high standard of customer service
- A ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to join an engaging, inclusive and dynamic work environment
- Understanding of and commitment to workplace health and safety
- Previous experience managing staff and volunteers
- Understanding of the Co-op’s operating structure, values and missions
Desirable
- Previous work or volunteering for a cooperative or similar not for profit structure
- WHS qualifications
- Experience with Xero and Lightspeed
- Experience with using and managing Google Groups
