Food Frontier is the independent think tank on alternative proteins in Australia and New Zealand. We’re committed to growing our region’s protein supply with new, sustainable and nutritious options that create value for businesses, farmers and consumers.

Our work is funded by grants and donations. Since 2017, Food Frontier’s research, events and engagements have helped businesses, policymakers and innovators understand the emergence and unlock the benefits of plant-based meat, precision fermentation and cultivated meat.

About our board

Are you interested in advancing leading-edge food systems change? Are you passionate about contributing to work that benefits the well-being of people, our planet and other species? Do you have strong food industry, policy and/or NFP fundraising experience to bring to a purpose-driven, values-aligned board of directors?

With several current non-executive directors (NEDs) having served for 6+ years (of a maximum tenure of 9 years), Food Frontier’s board is searching for its next 1-2 NEDs with experience in the key areas described.

In our 2023 anonymous board evaluation survey, directors have described the board as: diverse, collegiate, high integrity, multi-disciplinary, productive, purpose-aligned, no egos, collaborative, supportive, respectful, trusting of management. We are looking for voluntary directors who will continue to promote these cultural qualities and dynamics.

Experience

We are inviting applications from candidates with strong experience in one or more of the following:

  • Food industry (commercial);
  • Policy/government;
  • Not-for-profit fundraising, especially HNWs/foundations.

As well as strong alignment with our vision, mission, values and board culture.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Previous board directorship/s
  • People, culture and succession
  • Events/conferences
  • Not-for-profit management

Time commitment

The minimum annual commitment for all volunteer directors is:

  • 4x 3hr quarterly meetings (pre-reading and attendance)
  • 2x 2-3hr additional meetings, including annual strategy workshop
  • 2-4x engagements serving on one sub-committee, current options: GRFC (Governance, Risk, Finance & Compliance) Committee, or Funding Strategy Committee
  • Email communication between meetings.

We are seeking candidates who are based predominantly in Australia and able to attend some meetings in-person in Melbourne (travel costs covered by Food Frontier).

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed during July, and successful candidates will be invited to join the next board meeting. Food Frontier’s next quarterly meeting is scheduled for the afternoon of August 7th.
