Mental Health Professional’s at the Medicare Mental Health Centre are vital roles focused on providing high quality, person-led mental health services. They will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver therapeutic interventions, wellbeing coaching and support to individuals and or their families, experiencing a range of mental health challenges.
Footprints Community is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Professional to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention to individuals, families, and groups. This role is vital in supporting the mental and emotional well-being of our clients, ensuring they receive the care and support needed to improve their quality of life.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Client Assessment and Counselling:
- Conduct thorough assessments of individuals' mental health needs and collaboratively develop case formulations and treatment plans for people with moderate, severe, and complex mental health difficulties
- Perform risk assessments and develop thorough and practical risk management plans and safety planning.
- Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including individual, group, and family therapy, to address a wide range of mental health issues.
- Develop, implement, and review personalised mental wellbeing treatment plans in collaboration with the individual, families and other relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor and evaluate individuals progress and adjust plans as necessary.
- Provide individuals with wellbeing coaching opportunities.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with a team of lived experience and mental health professionals, including psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists.
- Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss guest progress and develop integrated support strategies.
- Actively participate in a multidisciplinary team, working closely with the Practice Lead and Manager of the Medicare Mental Health Centres as well as other staff, subcontractors and in-kind service providers at the centre.
- Attend case review meetings and participate in individual supervision, peer reflection and team meetings.
Client Education and Support:
- Educate guests and their families about mental health wellbeing, available support and therapeutic approaches.
- Provide crisis intervention and support as needed.
- Facilitate workshops and support groups to enhance guests' coping skills and resilience.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date person led records in compliance with organisational policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Prepare reports on the guest’s progress and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain guest confidentiality and adhere to duty of care, professional codes of ethics and relevant legislative requirements as required and/or appropriate.
Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with community organisations and referral sources.
- Participate in community outreach activities to promote mental health awareness and services offered by the centres.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders involved in the care of people
Professional Development:
- Engage in ongoing professional development activities to maintain and enhance counselling skills.
- Stay current with developments in the field of mental health and counselling.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Occupational Therapist or a related field.
- Current registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g., AHPRA, ACA, PACFA).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a counselling role, preferably within a mental health setting.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting mental health assessments and providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Strong understanding of mental health issues, treatment modalities, and community resources.
- Experience working with peoples’ mental health and well-being, leading to the provision of, inclusive and high-quality therapeutic services, with a solution and changed based focus.
- Alignment with a Lived Experience practice framework.
- Strong networks and knowledge of local support services which people may be referred to.
- Strong knowledge of the mental health system, government policy and legislation, and professional standards and codes of ethics as they pertain to working with people and their mental health.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other professionals in a multi-disciplinary team, as well as consult, liaise and work with a wide range of external stakeholders involved in the provision of health, mental health, and psychosocial services to people.
- Ability to work independently, with strong organisational and time management skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal communication and decision-making skills, coupled with the ability to involve other staff actively and appropriately, clients, their families, and significant others in the delivery of service where appropriate.

- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- National Workers Screening check or current Yellow Card.
- Blue Card – working with children.
Desirable:
- Current First Aid Certificate and CPR.
- Ability to use personal vehicle.
