The Organisation

WEstjustice are a leading community legal centre providing free services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people. From their offices in Footscray, Werribee and Sunshine and through their outreach services they provide advice on a broad range of issues including employment, discrimination, consumer disputes, tenancy, credit and debt, family disputes, family violence, criminal law and more.

WEstjustice believe in a just and fair society where the law and its processes do not discriminate against vulnerable people. They provide free legal education, undertake law reform activities and work in partnership with their local communities to deliver projects that improve access to justice.

The Role

This is a great opportunity for a motivated and highly skilled person to join our friendly, dynamic and supportive team and lead the development and transformation of our legal and general practice.

The Operations and Practice Manager will be responsible for our operations and administration team and development and implementation of our systems and processes across our organisation.

You will report to the Chief Executive Officer, engage with the management team, and oversee a well-regarded administration, data, and digital team.

Skills Required

Your background may come from a private law firm, a legal aid commission or community legal services.

You will also have:

  • Leadership skills, including initiative, innovation, capacity to work and think independently and interest in driving system improvements and reform
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited direction from management
  • High interpersonal skills in dealing with public and/or other organisations
  • Experience in managing and supporting a team
  • Excellent time management, initiative, planning and organisation skills, including an ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • High degree of professionalism and judgement with the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders and build strong partnerships
  • Prior change management experience and budget management
  • Prior legal practice management experience
  • Ability to work across a multidisciplinary team, including legal professionals, financial counsellors, social workers, community educators and development officers and administrators
  • A commitment to WEstjustice values and working with their clients and communities
  • A collaborative and innovative mindset
