The Great Barrier Reef is a unique icon and an irreplaceable ecosystem. It’s the largest living thing on earth and home to thousands of species of marine life, including six of the world’s seven species of marine turtle.
For over 20 years the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF) has been the lead charity for the Reef, driving the immediate change needed for the Reef to survive for future generations. Right now, we have over 370 Reef-saving projects with over 500 project delivery partners.
We are the action station for the Reef, bringing together people and science to deliver the world’s largest coral reefs program.
The role is an integral part of the Traditional Owner Partnerships team which delivers on the Reef Trust Partnership and its Traditional Owner Reef Protection Program. The team is focused on driving an agenda of transformative systems change within a collaborative culture. Members of the Traditional Owner Partnerships team are nimble, agile, and work to support the emerging priorities of Traditional Owners and the Foundation through a process of co-design and co-delivery.
This role provides high quality professional executive officer services to Traditional Owner governance arrangements that include an advisory group and three technical working groups. These groups each have different Terms of Reference outlining roles and responsibilities, which consider strategic policy direction, program design and delivery across the following component areas: healthy water (water quality), crown-of-thorns starfish control, reef restoration and adaptation (healing country), integrated monitoring and reporting (Strong Peoples – Strong Country) and sustainable financing (Traditional Owner Futures Fund).
This role is required to work collaboratively and effectively with Traditional Owners participating within the GBRF governance arrangements, Directors as well as other senior staff within and stakeholders external to the Foundation. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong capability to pursue strategic issues and new initiatives that have been agreed and prioritised by the Traditional Owner governance arrangements.
The Executive Officer will work closely with the two co-Directors to take a leading role in building and maintaining key relationships for the GBRF with Traditional Owner advisory and working group members.
