GetUp is looking for a brilliant Senior Campaigner to join the Democracy and Media Team.

Our democracy campaigners have delivered a range of high-engagement and intersectional campaigns. From Press freedom, saving our ABC, delivering a National Anti-Corruption Commission, Protection of whistleblowers, upholding access to enrolment, voting and polling centres and of course taking on Murdoch and his media empire.

We believe that politics belongs to the people and that there are many levers we can use in our campaigns to strengthen our democracy. We're looking for a creative thinker who is ready to take on the rise of the Far-Right and fight back against their influence over our elections, put a check on disinformation and take on the cost of living crisis.

This is a permanent full-time contract based in Sydney.

GetUp is full of talented campaigners and creatives who work across our four strategic areas, Democracy, First Nations Justice, Climate Justice and building Electoral power.

Our campaigners pride themselves to be able to hold deep strategic thinking as well as the ability to seize crucial change moments that make a massive difference on our issues.

Their days are filled with analysing the political state of play, developing long-term and rapid-fire strategy, engaging with politicians, media and affected communities, spotting the right moment to intervene, running impactful tactics including everything from protests to undercover investigations, writing hard-hitting copy, and coming up with creative ways to give our members the best chance for impact.

Your new role, the details

You will join as a Senior Campaigner in the Democracy and Media team to design and deliver campaign communications in ways that are engaging, creative and impactful – enhancing the reach and success of our activities.

You will design and implement a campaigning and fundraising strategy, and keep an eye on how effective our communications are. Engage across the organisation, leading and inspiring the campaigners you manage to achieve and grow together.

Senior Campaigners are responsible for:

• Drafting campaign strategy in accordance with team goals and organisational strategy;
• Writing and reviewing high quality campaign content across all GetUp channels;
• Monitoring the latest news and recommending appropriate courses of action;
• Leading on campaign research, planning and evaluation;
• Leading on team processes and forward planning;
• Representing GetUp in the community and media;
• Supporting engagement with key stakeholders, including political offices;
• Leading from within campaigns teams to execute campaigns and meet their goals;
• Supervising other staff and/or volunteers as required.

You are someone who

• Is passionate about growing and strengthening a movement of everyday people to take action for justice on a wide range of issues;
• Produces rapid-fire strategic analysis and good judgement to secure short, mid and long-term campaign wins;
• Is a savvy written communicator, adept at thinking through complex policy ideas and communicating them simply and clearly with hard-hitting copy;
• Has strong digital skills and a willingness to learn new technologies, and who thrives in a fast-paced digital environment;
• Works independently on a range of tasks and projects and takes initiative doing whatever it takes to get the job done;
• Is a team player who is always bringing off-the-wall, creative ideas to the table; and
• Has at least three years of relevant professional experience.

Bonus points for

• Experience in digital fundraising especially large-scale crowdfunding;
• Experience copywriting in any context;
• Experience working in the political or media cycle.
