GetUp is looking for a Racial Justice Director (Federal Election) to lead our national communications strategy and digital campaigns work on racial justice during the upcoming Federal election.
SCHADS Classification Level 7-8, salary range $97,815.64 - $110,302.92 per annum (pro-rata) + superannuation, determined by relevant experience and qualifications.
This is a fixed term contract until May 2022 based in Sydney or Melbourne, however we are open to flexible arrangements for the right candidate.
At GetUp, we know our capacity to drive progressive change is increased when our team has a diversity of backgrounds and experience – and especially comes from a background of lived experience on the issues we work on.
The GetUp movement is powered by the values and hopes of everyday people. We combine the power of over one million members, movement partners and a central team of expert strategists to make extraordinary impact.
We focus our campaigns on the areas our members care about most in the fields of First Nations Justice, Climate Justice, Human Rights, Economic Fairness and Democratic Integrity. From making sure hundreds of thousands of people are able to vote in elections, to successfully stopping major projects threatening the Great Barrier Reef, or securing billions of dollars in new funding for mental health – we have a decade-long history of taking on powerful interests, and winning.
The role in itself provides a unique opportunity to lead GetUp’s racial justice work through the upcoming federal election. To support you in your success, GetUp also offers candidates a pro risk environment with high autonomy and creative input along with progressive and flexible entitlements.
GetUp harnesses the power of elections as key change moments on our issues – to build public support, cement policy wins, demonstrate electoral power and shape the public discourse. We do this by mobilising our members and the broader community at scale to tip the balance to a more progressive Australia.
This election our campaign will be anti-racist in our strategy, story, minds and hearts. We will work with impacted communities to identify opportunities for the GetUp membership to stand in solidarity and scale impact. We will drive a powerful narrative campaign, centring the voices of affected communities, to hold politicians to account.
Elections provide GetUp with an extraordinary platform to experiment with new ideas, test new messages and use the GetUp megaphone to strengthen the democratic participation of, and empower, First Nations peoples and Communities of Colour. This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to bring new ideas to the way GetUp campaigns for racial justice and help shape the national conversation on race in the upcoming election.
You will be someone who is technically savvy across digital channels and an inspired storyteller able to connect and influence varied communities and stakeholders. You thrive on the fast pace of the political and media landscape, and are highly effective in taking others on the journey. You have a deep understanding of engaging and collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders across cultures and lived experiences. Specifically you are or have:
If even a couple of these criteria speak to you, you could be the perfect person for the job. Formal education, qualifications and extensive experience matter less to us than excellence, initiative and drive.
Applications will be processed on an ongoing basis so please get your applications in ASAP.
