The Girls & Boys Brigade has a long history of taking care of inner-city children. Our Centre in Surry Hills caters for over 200 girls and boys aged 5-18 years.

Children, youth and their families who often struggle with significant life challenges rely on our holistic approach which provides a range of education and recreation programs, along with the vital support to strengthen families and encourage a more positive future.

About the role

The Community Fundraising & Events Coordinator is responsible for building interest and engaging with community organisations and fundraisers, event committees, corporates and individuals in order to secure financial and in-kind support for The Girls & Boys Brigade’s mission and services while meeting income targets:

  • Create fundraising programs for the local schools & communities;
  • Recruit and support community fundraisers to stage events and other fundraising activities on behalf of the GBB;
  • Meet or exceed required targets in securing donations, new and retained community groups and individuals as fundraisers and advocates and other agreed KPIs;
  • Provide overall event coordination for fundraising & corporate events, liaising with event committees as required;
  • Undertake events research, administration, external quotes, liaising with suppliers, communication with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Pre/post and on-site event management;
  • Source donated goods for fundraising events, and thanking supporters.

The position requires the ability to work both independently and within the team to effectively prioritise tasks and plan workload.

Skills and experience

  • Experience in events coordination and community fundraising
  • Experience in charity and not-for-profit fundraising activities
  • Initiative and independence whilst working collaboratively within a small team
  • Problem-solving and critical analysis
  • A passion for working with socially and financially disadvantaged children, youth and families
  • Strong communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Confidence and ability to liaise with, engage and cultivate strong working relationships fundraisers, stakeholders and third-party suppliers.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel & Powerpoint
  • Experience using online fundraising platforms, i.e Raisley, Just Giving, Grassrootz, MyCause, etc. is preferred
  • NSW Working with Children check
