Fundraising Communications Coordinator

The Girls & Boys Brigade

Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified candidate to cover maternity leave starting in January 2025. Ideally, the successful applicant will be available for a few days of handover in December to ensure a smooth transition and effective knowledge transfer.

About Us:

The Girls & Boys Brigade is a charity committed to delivering wraparound support services for young people and families in need. Based in the vibrant suburb of Surry Hills, we offer a wide range of educational and recreational programs, including after-school care, homework assistance, school holiday activities, weekend adventure camps, a food pantry, and family support services.

The families we serve often face complex challenges, including single parenthood, cultural and linguistic diversity, and housing instability, all compounded by financial hardships. Our programs aim to level the playing field for children living in disadvantage, providing them with the opportunities they need to thrive and succeed in life.

Your Role:

Working in a close-knit fundraising team, you will collaborate with two wonderful colleagues to implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes communications, grants, events, and corporate sponsorships. Since The Girls & Boys Brigade does not receive government funding, your role will be essential in helping us achieve our fundraising goals and maximise our impact on the communities we serve.

As the Fundraising Communications Coordinator, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and executing compelling campaigns and donor communications from start to finish, including a Yearly Review, two major appeals, seasonal newsletters, receipts, thank-you letters, and more.
  • Creating and designing marketing materials as needed, such as pamphlets, program templates, event signage, and other collateral.
  • Supporting fundraising administration tasks, including photo management, donor receipting, website updates, designing monthly desktop backgrounds, drafting board reports, and updating staff bulletin boards.
  • Managing a social media calendar for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, producing engaging graphics, videos, and images to promote our work.
  • Engaging with our alumni through an annual alumni event and supporting communications, alongside regular updates on our alumni Facebook page.
  • Assisting the team with events and other projects as needed.

Our Ideal Candidate Possesses:

  • A genuine passion for working with children and families in need.
  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or another related discipline.
  • Excellent writing skills that are easily adapted for different types of communications and audiences. Experience in charity/not-for-profit fundraising communications is a bonus.
  • Canva expertise and a keen eye for design, with the ability to efficiently whip up great looking graphics on the fly.
  • Strong organisation skills, with the ability to manage many projects and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • A true team spirit, “how can I help?” attitude, the ability to find creative solutions to problems and have fun while doing it.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, and CRM systems such as eTapestry is an asset.

Why Should You Apply?

  • Enjoy a hybrid work model that allows you to work from home and from our centre in the vibrant suburb of Surry Hills, conveniently located just a short walk from the light rail and a variety of delightful local coffee and lunch spots (our team can recommend the best ones!).
  • Experience a friendly and fun team culture working amongst a dozen caring and spunky colleagues.
  • Level-up your career with 12-months of accelerated experience with a wide range of fundraising activities.
  • Enjoy generous not-for-profit salary packaging benefits.
  • Be part of an awesome organisation that is making a meaningful difference to young people in our community and their families. As our workspace shares a building with our program spaces, you will be able to interact with the young people and see the impact of your work first-hand. You may even get to tag along on a few fun excursions during school holidays!
