About Us

Global Voices is an independent, not-for profit organisation with the mission to develop Australia’s future leaders in diplomacy and policy through practical international experience. We facilitate a 6-month Policy Fellowship for Australians aged 18-30 and publish high quality policy proposals developed by our Fellows on our GV online journal.

Since our founding in 2011, we have supported over 350 young people to attend over 100 international summits at the United Nations, OECD, World Health Organisation and World Bank. Each year, we are also responsible for selecting the Australian representatives to the Y20 Youth Summit.

Position Outline

Global Voices is seeking a motivated young professional to join our team and take on the Communications Manager role.

The Communications Manager is an integral part of our Executive Team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The successful applicant will be creative, organised, outcome-focused and have a flexible and positive attitude towards their work. They will also be passionate about working with and mentoring young people and have an interest in international affairs.

The Communications Manager's responsibilities include managing the Global Voices website, developing promotional materials and leading application campaigns (including video material), managing Global Voices' social media, leading scholars through the Media Engagement component of the Scholarship program, and engaging with our alumni network.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who has dreamt of leading communications and marketing projects and wants the freedom to run with new ideas. In this role, the Manager will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about Australia's international engagement and strategic objectives and further develop their professional networks.

Position Requirements

  • You must be aged 18-30 years old for the entirety of your contract with Global Voices
  • Part-time role, flexible hours (up to 15 hours per week)
  • Australian citizen, permanent resident, or permanent humanitarian resident
  • Be willing and able to travel to our four-day Canberra Briefings program twice a year
  • Be willing and able to travel as a support staff member on international delegations throughout the year (timing and duration negotiable)
  • Be willing and able to commit to the role for the entirety of the 18-month contract
  • Have own laptop, smartphone and internet access

Position Responsibilities

  • Manage a social media schedule across several digital platforms (mainly LinkedIn and Instagram);
  • Lead scholars through the media engagement component of the Fellowship Program, including providing ongoing guidance on how to pitch to media outlets
  • Manage the development and regular update of website content
  • Manage the Global Voices News and Media Centre, including working closely with Delegations Managers and Fellows to create and publish thought pieces and website content
  • Create promotional collateral for partners and other interested parties to promote the scholarship offerings each semester and staff recruitment
  • Work closely with the CEO to create engaging partnership prospectus' and external documents geared towards a range of audiences
  • Provide bi-annual communications analytical reports on recruitment
  • Assist Fellows in developing key relationships and opportunities to achieve broader engagement with their policy papers
  • Curate an engaged alumni community
  • Manage the coordination of alumni and networking events
  • Manage staff members and interns (where appropriate)
  • Assist in the completion of general administrative and ad-hoc tasks, as required

Key Selection Criteria

  • Experience working with Wix, Brevo and Canva, or similar softwares
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare a variety of materials for different audiences, sometimes at short notice
  • Confident presenting information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and manage relationships and work efficiently and professionally in a small team environment;
  • Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines and to confidently adapt to changing circumstances
  • Demonstrated communications management experience that displays initiative, ambition and vision, with the ability to work independently to achieve project outcomes
  • A willingness to learn and further develop skills and experience, by being open to and implementing feedback and recommendations for improved outcomes
  • Experience curating video content (highly desired, though not essential) and
  • Experience in journalism or PR is looked favourably upon, though not essential (desired)
