  • Remuneration: $150 weekly stipend ($50 during probation period)

About Us

Global Voices is an independent, not-for profit organisation with the mission to develop Australia’s future leaders in diplomacy and policy through practical international experience. We facilitate a 6-month Policy Fellowship for Australians aged 18-30 and publish high quality policy proposals developed by our Fellows on our GV online journal.

Since our founding in 2011, we have supported over 350 young people to attend over 100 international summits at the United Nations, OECD, World Health Organisation and World Bank. Each year, we are also responsible for selecting the Australian representatives to the Y20 Youth Summit.

Position Outline

Global Voices is seeking a motivated young professional to join our team and lead the policy components of our work. The ideal candidate will be passionate about young people’s engagement with policy, have the ability to take initiative, work independently, have a work or study background in policy and/or government, a nuanced understanding of Australian policy processes and a keen interest in diplomacy.

Our Policy Manager is responsible for ensuring the Global Voices policy Fellowship equips participants with the skills they need to write meaningful policy proposals and for curating a high quality online policy journal. They will be responsible for training participants on policy writing, providing feedback on policy proposal drafts and maintaining our online journal.

Position Requirements

  • You must be aged 18-30 years old for the entirety of your contract with Global Voices
  • Part-time role, flexible hours (up to 15 hours per week)
  • Australian citizen, permanent resident, or permanent humanitarian resident
  • Be willing and able to travel to our four-day Canberra Briefings program twice a year, in April/May and September
  • Be willing and able to travel as a support staff member on international delegations throughout the year (timing and duration negotiable)
  • Be willing and able to commit to the role for the entirety of the 18-month contract
  • Have own laptop, smartphone and internet access at home.

Position Responsibilities

  • Contributing to application review and recruitment of Fellows by reviewing policy proposals
  • Mentor and upskill Fellows in the principles and practices of policy writing and development
  • Provide detailed feedback and guidance on Fellows' policy drafts to ensure clarity, coherence, and impact
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions on effective policy writing techniques
  • Maintaining a policy tracker with submission deadlines, and following up with Fellows who have not submitted their drafts or proposals on time
  • Publishing completed policy papers on the Global Voices online journal
  • Foster a supportive and engaging learning environment for Fellows
  • Report on Fellows' progress and the impact of policy initiatives
  • Other ad hoc administrative tasks as required, including providing assistance to other Managers, when necessary.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary level qualification or relevant experience related to governance or policy
  • Highly organised, self-motivated and professional
  • Well-versed in domestic policy and international affairs
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly writing and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team
  • Experience working independently and being able to adapt to competing priorities and changing circumstances
  • Ability to meet and comply with all organisational health and safety programs and requirements
  • Tech-literate and able to learn how to manage an online journal via the Global Voices website
