The Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre Aboriginal Corporation (GALCAC) is the regional language centre for the Goldfields region of WA. GALCAC is a dynamic, First Nations research centre of excellence with the head office located in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Overview of the First Nations Men’s Wellbeing Project

GALCAC is developing a First Nations men’s wellbeing project based around a mobile workshop which will visit 11 communities and 7 towns twice per year, over the next 3 years. The mobile workshop will be manned by two Elders and managed by a truck driver/mechanic. Aboriginal-led solutions including yarning and peer-to-peer support, underpin the project’s processes.

The First Nations Men’s Wellbeing project is an exciting new development, and the Project Manager will be required to work under the CEO, and GALCAC’s Board of Directors, alongside a Men’s Reference group, and an Industry Reference Group throughout the project’s duration.

About the role

GALCAC is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled person for the role of Project Manager for a new Goldfields First Nations Men’s Wellbeing Project. The role is a fixed term, full-time position based in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The Project Manager has responsibility for managing the project, under direction from the CEO, achieving high quality outcomes with a small team. The applicant needs a strong background in community development, health, anthropology, or a related humanities field.

The applicant must be very keen to work in an exciting, grass-roots Aboriginal organisation which at times is fast-paced or challenging. The Project Manager will be managing a 4-person team.

  • Highly developed administrative skills including IT capability
  • Highly developed human resource management skills
  • Highly developed organisational, and asset management skills
  • Proven ability to adhere to organisational policy and procedure
  • Well developed financial management skills
  • Advanced liaison, communication and data collection skills
  • WA driver’s licence, or ability to obtain
  • Working With Children card, or ability to obtain
  • National Police Clearance, or ability to obtain
  • Ability to undertake remote field work
  • Australian citizen
