Role Purpose

As a dedicated Microfinance Officer, you will guide clients through the Good Shepherd NILS application process. You will assist clients of diverse backgrounds with all aspects of loan applications, including conducting one-on-one interviews with clients, checking supporting documentation and submitting their applications for assessment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and assess microfinance and microenterprise referrals with empathy, empowering clients throughout the application process.
  • Guide clients through loan applications, conducting interviews, financial discussions, and verifying supporting documentation.
  • Identify financial risk factors and prioritise referrals to financial counselling, financial well-being, or legal support services, aligning with client goals.
  • Mitigate fraudulent applications through identification of relevant risks (identity, payment risk, etc..) throughout the microfinance application process and escalating as required.
  • Provide high-quality, trauma-informed support to help clients make informed choices for their well-being and self-determination.

About you

  • Certificate or Diploma in Community Services or Finance desirable or experience in a similar role
  • Experience with loan origination
  • Knowledge of the financial and credit industries and community services system desirable
  • Well-developed consultation and collaboration skills and be able to work in complex work environments
  • Experience in NILs origination or understanding of finPOWER would be desirable
