About the Opportunity

The position is partially funded through the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), as part of the Targeted Early Intervention (TEI), Community Strengthening Stream, to build community connection and strengthen community cohesion. All services within this program stream aim to connect members of the community, experiencing or at risk of experiencing vulnerability, with the broader community and strengthening the community as a whole.
 
The target group includes vulnerable children, youth, families and communities. Priority Groups include refugees, migrants, CALD communities, social housing tenants, grandparents and single parents.  
 
The position is also responsible for implementing one off community programs with ad hoc funding sourced through local government, state or federal bodies to address specific community issues.

About The Role

The role of the Community Strengthening Co-ordination is to implement the Community Strengthening Stream of our TEI Contract. This includes ensuring that programs are delivered on time and on budget and working strategically with other community partners/stakeholders to create opportunities to engage the community.

Program Focus:

Planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating programs that connect members of the community, experiencing or at risk of experiencing vulnerability, with the broader community.

Tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Implementing a variety of programs including education and skills training, community engagement, social participation, client support and advocacy,
  • Sourcing ad hoc grants to address specific community needs/issues that fall outside of TEI funding
  • Maintaining a Needs Assessment profile of the local community to inform local planning and support and drive new community development initiatives
  • Promoting access to services for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, CALD community members, women, children, families, young people and older people.
  • Working strategically to build collaboration with stakeholders to achieve outcomes for the community in line with agreed funding outcomes.
  • Recruiting and supporting volunteers to assist with aspects of the program
  • Maintaining all aspects of program accountabilities including client statistical data in line with the funding guidelines
  • Collecting and entering client data into the DEX reporting portal

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • A relevant Degree qualification
  • Experience in working within a Community Development/Engagement/Strengthening framework
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating community projects
  • Ability to build successful stakeholder relationships, community networks and connections
  • Ability to engage effectively with all sectors of the local community and with the program’s target group
  • Ability to achieve contracted program outcomes
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of funding sources and experience with the funding application process
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting and supporting volunteers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Emails and social media platforms
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • A current NSW driver's licence

Desirable:

  • Community Language
  • Knowledge of TEI funding
