“When you’ve got art, you’ve got voice. And when you’ve got voice, you’ve got freedom, and with freedom comes responsibility."
—Richard Frankland, Gunditjmara filmmaker, musician, and activist.
Green Music Australia is the national organisation for music and the environment. We believe music can unite people for a cause that transcends boundaries. With the planet in crisis, the urgency for climate action has never been greater. Music is a force for change – one that we’re harnessing to inspire audiences across the country to get active and lead the charge to a safer, greener world.
Over the last decade, we’ve made waves in the industry—working with over 40 festivals to eliminate plastic waste, collaborating with major artists to green their shows, and staging high-impact climate actions. Now, with the 2025 election on the horizon, we’re turning up the volume and calling on the music community to push for bold climate action.
Imagine a world where artists, festivals and venues are leading the charge against climate change. A world where the music industry implements solutions and advocates for ambitious political action. That’s the vision behind NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET. Our campaign is rallying artists and the broader music community to stand up for the planet and demand action from our leaders before it’s too late.
We’re looking for a Community Organiser to lead our NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET campaign by galvanising performers, fans and music businesses to speak up for our planet. You’ll be responsible for building people power to achieve our long term vision for the future: empowering artists, fans and industry workers to step into their leadership, contributing to campaign strategy, leading outreach, and coordinating actions at festivals, venues, and other events.
Although we may not have met yet, we’re confident you’ll be:
Deeply passionate about music, climate action, and social change – you believe in the power of music to drive action and are ready to take that passion to the next level.
A confident communicator and organiser – you can connect with people from all walks of life and all genres of music, coordinate events, and manage multiple stakeholders effectively.
A strategic thinker – you’re able to contribute to campaign strategies that engage and inspire both artists and their audiences.
Energetic and adaptable – you thrive in fast-paced environments, stay positive when things get hectic, and keep pushing forward with a "we’ve got this" attitude.
Community Organising – recruit, motivate, train and empower musicians, industry professionals, and audiences to bring them into the campaign.
Liaison with the environment movement – link up with key environmental organisations to amplify our respective campaigns.
Campaign strategy development – Develop and lead the implementation of our community organising strategy across the country that mobilises the music community for climate action.
Event management – coordinate actions like stalls at festivals and venues to engage the public and build visibility for the campaign.
Digital engagement, tools and data – Assist in the development of digital communication strategies and tactics that effectively engage GMA’s supporter base to take action. Ensure metrics are set for activities and data collected and integrated into GMA information management systems.
Stakeholder engagement – foster strong relationships with supporters, partners, and collaborators across the music and environmental sectors, and represent GMA in advocacy work including in local media.
This is an eight-month, 0.8 FTE contract running until June 2025, with flexibility around location, days and hours. We offer a collaborative, impact-driven work environment.
