  • Full time salary of $78,034 – $88,756 per annum (depending on skills and experience), plus an all-incidence allowance of $7,340 per annum, employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading (pro-rata for part time)

About us

Greens MP Kobi Shetty was elected to the NSW Legislative Assembly in 2023, representing a highly engaged constituency in Sydney’s inner west. Our small, passionate Electorate Office team work to support the MP in a fast paced, high demand environment.

We provide exceptional one-on-one support to constituents as well as building good relationships with organisations and stakeholders to advance the Greens principles of social and economic justice, environmental sustainability, grassroots democracy and peace & non-violence.

About the position

The Electorate Office of Balmain is the direct link to NSW State Parliament for local constituents, advocating on their behalf to various government and non-government agencies to deliver progressive, inclusive outcomes for the whole community.

The primary focus of the Community Organiser is to lead community outreach and campaigning, and to ensure that constituents are informed and engaged with the work of the Member.

The Community Organiser is responsible for managing and maintaining our constituent database, leading constituent outreach, and providing crucial support to the Member and her team across a range of disciplines including policy, communications and constituent engagement.

The role requires some after hours and weekend work for which an annual All Incidence of Employment Allowance is paid. The position is for five days per week, although applications for part-time work in this role will be considered.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of a community engagement strategy to build, mobilise and empower a network of residents across the electorate of Balmain,
  • Identify opportunities for new community campaigns and constituent engagement,
  • Manage and maintain a database of stakeholders and community contacts,
  • Maintain an inclusive and accessible “front of house” and assist with maintaining the electorate office as a comfortable and inclusive workspace,
  • Assist with constituent relations including face-to-face interactions, phone liaison and drafting of written correspondence,
  • Provide additional support to the Member and her team as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

  1. High level computer skills including ability to manage a contact database, and other digital organising and outreach tools,
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines,
  4. Demonstrated ability to perform at a high standard under limited supervision within a small team environment,
  5. Demonstrated commitment to the core principles of the Greens and an interest in parliamentary procedures and processes.

Desirable

  1. Knowledge of the inner west and the key issues that impact our local area,
  2. Experience in use of social media, websites and digital communication tools,
  3. Experience managing volunteers, and
  4. Experience in community organising or event co-ordination.
