About the Greens NSW

The Greens Party movement is based on the four pillars of social equity and economic justice, ecological sustainability, grassroots democracy, and peace, nonviolence and disarmament. Greens parties across the world share these same principles and values.

We have four MPs in the NSW Upper House and three MPs in the NSW Lower House. In the Federal Parliament the Greens have both Lower House MPs and a significant number of Senators, two currently representing NSW. We have over 60 councillors across NSW, including several Mayors and Deputy Mayors. We have over 4000 members in NSW.

Key responsibilities

  1. In collaboration with State and National stakeholders, assist with the development of a robust communications strategy and oversee the delivery of messaging for the 2025 Federal election.
  2. Lead and manage direct reports to provide guidance and ensure a productive environment that aligns with Greens values.
  3. Ensure the production of high-quality content for various channels, including the website, social media, digital newsletters and appeals.
  4. Work with the Fundraising Coordinator to optimise election fundraising initiatives.
  5. Support the Federal Election Campaign Manager, the Convenor and State Manager as required to respond to external media enquiries
  6. Proactively identify and capitalise on communications and media opportunities.
  7. Other duties as required

Essential requirements

The Communications Manager must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Several years’ experience at a senior level of a hands-on communications role in a busy environment.
  • Extensive experience in audience and insight-driven communications and content strategy, development and implementation.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to make complex issues simple.
  • Ability to articulate the big picture story and develop framing strategy for different segments.
  • A strong background in sourcing, developing and editing engaging content for multiple platforms including print, online and social media.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence, cultural competence, problem solving skills and resilience.
  • Strong understanding of segments and target audience.
  • Ability to work with different campaign tools including mass email platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and an ability to work well in small teams in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in a political or campaigning environment.
  • An understanding of the Greens and support for the party’s principles, policies and decision-making processes.
  • Ability to work and prioritise independently.

Desirable:

  • Deep understanding of social media channels and the digital media landscape
  • The tenacity to push stories and content relentlessly
  • Experience of working with Not for Profits and membership driven organisations
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and database processes

Note: successful candidates must not be a member of another political party.

PAY AND CONDITIONS

  • Salary: $104,852.20 FTE p.a pro rata. + 12.5% superannuation.
  • Primary Location: The Greens NSW Office in Camperdown.
  • Hours: 35 hours per week. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Status: Full-time fixed term contract until two weeks after the Federal Election 2025
  • Position begins: October 2024
  • Covered by: The Greens NSW Staff Collective Agreement.
