ABOUT THE ROLE

The Greens NSW creates a wide range of communications including regular newsletters and emails to party members, electoral messaging, policy campaigning and fundraising. The Greens are looking for a passionate, politically clever and strategic communicator who will bring their skills for creating compelling messages to work for the Greens NSW for the upcoming State election on March 25 2023.

The Communications Officer will take the leadership role in the election campaign in a small communications team, leveraging the work of designers, social media and journalism experts to present and deliver the election messaging.

The Communications Officer will also work closely with our MPs, office bearers, campaigners, local groups and office staff. Growing our engagement with supporters and members, by working with the fundraising and membership teams, is a particularly important part of the role.

You will be responsible for developing and delivering a communications strategy, policy and protocols that also includes oversight of digital communications. You will help ensure our activities, platforms and policies are well explained, and told to all the people who need to hear about them.

As a senior communicator you will need to leverage your understanding of diverse cultural perspectives, personal meaning, and values of NSW residents to tailor messages for multiple, different audiences.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The Communications Officer must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Several years’ experience at a senior level of a hands-on communications role in a busy environment;
  • Extensive experience in audience and insight-driven communications and content strategy, development and implementation.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to make complex issues simple;
  • Ability to articulate the big picture story and develop framing strategy for different segments;
  • A strong background in sourcing, developing and editing engaging content for multiple platforms including print, online and social media
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence, cultural competence, problem solving skills and resilience.
  • Strong understanding of segments and target audience
  • Ability to work with different campaign tools including mass email platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and an ability to work well in small teams in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in a political or campaigning environment
  • An understanding of the Greens and support for the party’s principles, policies and decision-making processes
  • Ability to work and prioritise independently

Preferred requirements:

  • Deep understanding of social media channels and the digital media landscape
  • The tenacity to push stories and content relentlessly
  • Experience of working with Not for Profits and membership driven organisations
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and database processes

Note: successful candidates must not be a member of another political party.

PAY AND CONDITIONS

  • Salary: $89,990.07 + superannuation contribution 11.5%.
  • Primary Location: The Greens NSW office in Glebe or remotely.
  • Hours: Full time (35 hrs)
  • Status: Fixed term
  • Covered by: The Greens NSW Staff Collective Agreement.
