The Organisation

Growing Potential Ltd (GPL) is a community based not-for-profit organisation based in Western Sydney. GPL was established in 1948 in Blacktown as a provider of early childhood services. It has since diversified to include NDIS services as well as Aboriginal community services.

Services are currently provided across Western Sydney, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Tamworth. The Board has aspirations to continue to grow sustainably.

GPL is a Company Limited by Guarantee and enjoys DGR and PBI status. The Board is responsible for governance including financial sustainability and risk, strategic direction, and oversight of the activities of the Company consistent with usual statutory obligations.

The Opportunity

The Board is seeking to make a number of appointments to ensure that it has the skills to address the future needs of the organisation as well as effective succession.

As a Non-Executive Director, you will amongst other things be expected to support the Mission, Vision and Values of GPL; adhere to our Code of Conduct; contribute to the strategic direction of GPL, and act with integrity and within the legal and statutory requirements of Board members.

You will be expected to attend bi-monthly Board meetings (usually in the evening, and often virtual), and relevant Committee meetings, and actively contribute to these meetings.

The Board is particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in:

  • Early Childhood services;
  • Aboriginal service provision;
  • working and/or living in Western Sydney;
  • Community Services/not-for-profit organisations and;
  • NDIS and disability services.

Financial literacy and experience or demonstrated understanding of corporate governance, risk and compliance are essential for the role.

Directors are appointed for an initial term of three years and may then seek election for an additional term. Directors can serve a maximum of three terms (nine years).

The position is voluntary but reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed.
