ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION
Good Samaritan Inn (GSI) provides crisis and short-term accommodation, and specialist supports to women ( i.e. trans and cisgender women), non-binary, and gender diverse people, including children and young people who have experienced family violence and homelessness. GSI delivers person-centered, feminist and trauma-informed services and programs that address immediate needs.
GSI also provides outreach support to victim-survivors living in the community, ensuring safety, connection, and engagement with local and specialist services. Through an innovative coaching and employment program, GSI builds skills and capacity, empowering individuals to achieve economic independence and rebuild their sense of self and future.
GSI is in the process of expanding their specialist family violence services to include a longer-term accommodation response to assist women, children and young people to re-establish themselves in the community following the family violence crisis phase. The focus of this new accommodation and service model is to provide a healing and recovery response for victim survivors with a range of complex needs.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Practitioner - Healing and Recovery is a new role which will support the implementation of a longer-term accommodation response to assist women, children and young people to re-establish themselves in the community following their family violence crisis phase. This role will focus on coordinating individualised recovery and healing responses for victim survivors with a principle focus on pathways into self-sufficiency through opportunities for life skills development, training and employment options applying an expanded coaching model. The role will apply an inclusive approach which acknowledges and responds to the diverse and unique characteristics and needs of all women and children.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include:
- Work in partnership with women and children to identify strengths, presenting needs and goals and develop a plan with strategies to reflect their goals in alignment with the FSV Case management Program requirements
- Lead and support engagement with children and young people to discuss their needs and identify risks and provide oversight of the development of an individual plan which is age appropriate and consistent with relevant standards and requirements.
- Co-ordinate and monitor the plans in collaboration with the women and children. This includes facilitating system navigation advocacy, referrals and collaborative multi agency teamwork.
- Provide options and opportunities for victim survivors to build confidence, support their recovery from trauma and develop life skills by organising access to coaching, counselling, on-site information sessions, programs, and resources.
- Work in partnership with women and other practitioners to identify pathways to sustainable employment and income support through training and coaching.
- Undertake ongoing risk assessment and safety planning in partnership with clients using the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM)
- Liaise and collaborate with the Service Planning and Development Manager and other internal and external stakeholders to participate in the design, development, and implementation of the new service model
- Contribute to the development and implementation of program guidelines, and accompanying systems and processes to support the new facilities program requirements
- Engage and consult with key stakeholders who are involved in contributing to the recovery and wellbeing of clients
- Provide leadership, guidance and coordination for the practitioners delivering individual or group programs
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work / psychology or equivalent i line with the minimum qualifications for specialist family violence practitioners (meeting RCFV Recommendation 209)
- Experience and expertise in working with women and children experiencing family violence and homelessness in a healing and recovery context
- Capacity to assess the impact of family violence and trauma on children and young people and provide child-focused and developmentally appropriate responses
- Demonstrated understanding and ability to apply risk management frameworks (MARAM) and information sharing principles
- Understanding of and commitment to use evidence based, trauma informed responses to support positive outcomes, promoting independence, resilience, and enhanced quality of life for women, children, and young people
- Capacity to assess the impact of family violence and trauma on children and young people and provide child-focused and developmentally appropriate responses

- Excellent communication and advocacy skills to navigate and consult effectively with victim survivors, community organisations and the various service systems
- Demonstrated capacity in the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of new programs and services

- Ability to provide leadership across the organisation and to individual practitioners
Conditions of employment
- A Working with Children Check (Employee Version)
- A current Victorian driver’s license
- Successful appointment to the position will be subject to a National Police Check (and international if applicable)
- Eligible to work in Australia
Salary
The remuneration for the position is at the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award, Level 6, (PayPoint dependent on qualifications and experience) plus superannuation. Salary packaging is available to increase your take-home pay.
