About the program

The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) is an initiative of the Department of Social Services and evaluated via IPS works. The program has been expanded from a trial to being embedded in 50 headspace centres, including headspace Shepparton, throughout Australia and the service offers employment and vocational support to complement existing clinical mental health and non-vocational support.

About the role

Working with clinical colleagues in headspace Shepparton, you will support young people experiencing mental ill-health by providing individualised work and study support to improve their educational and employment outcomes.

Reporting to the IPS Supervisor you will:

  • Provide work and study support using the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model.
  • Manage a caseload of up to 20 young people at any given time
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with external organisations that increase access to employment and educational opportunities for young people of the service
  • Attend clinical review meetings to promote the IPS work and study program to clinical staff and provide feedback on the progress of young people
  • Assist jobseekers to identify their employment goals
  • Co-design Career/Vocational Profiles and individual Employment Plans with participants, with input from the participant’s clinical team
  • Conduct regular job development and job search activities

We are looking for:

You are passionate, energetic, and determined to make a difference to the employment and education outcomes of young people.

You will bring the following characteristics to the role:

  • Empathy – the ability to understand and empathise with young people, their families, and supporters;
  • Flexibility – the ability to work flexibly in response to young people’s changing and emerging needs;
  • Learning-focused – the ability to build learning and continuous improvement into your work; and
  • Confidence – the ability to engage confidently with young people, other staff, employers, education providers and community members.

In addition, you may bring or show evidence of:

  • An understanding of the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model
  • Experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field
  • Knowledge of issues that impact young people with mental ill-health when accessing employment and/or educational opportunities
  • Experience developing impactful, results-driven business relationships
  • A current driver’s licence will be required as this role is partially community based
