Tell me about the role…

headspace Schools, works to reduce the rates of youth suicide and improve mental health outcomes among Australian secondary school students and their community. This newly created role within the NSW Health Collaborative Program holds a strong focus on building the mental health literacy and capacity of communities in NSW.

An exciting opportunity exists for a qualified professional with experience in influencing change and working in collaborative partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders.

Who are we looking for?

The position calls for an individual with exceptional interpersonal skills who can engage, liaise and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders and organisations.

Furthermore, you will have significant experience in influencing change and working in collaborative partnerships with school leadership teams and/or education authorities, local community agencies and other stakeholders.

To be successful, you will also possess an understanding of youth mental health issues including suicide postvention, suicide and trauma.

Based in Sydney, NSW with a competitive salary ($70,000-$90,000) plus generous salary packaging benefits on offer. Remuneration is dependent on skills and experience.

Key Selection Questions:

  1. Please detail your tertiary qualification in education (including qualification in adult education), public health promotion, community development and/or mental health, or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
  2. What is your experience of how mental health issues impact on young people and their families? Please outline your experience in working with young people with mental health issues.
  3. Describe your experience in influencing change and working in collaboration with stakeholders.
  4. What is your knowledge of the common social and mental health issues faced by young people and experienced by school communities, including suicide postvention, suicide, self-harm and trauma?
  5. What are some key considerations when developing content for training sessions and resource packages?
