Who we are looking for

This is an identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Position*.

headspace is seeking a skilled mental health practitioner and an experienced, consultative professional who can provide cultural expertise and knowledge of social and emotional well-being to support culturally safe and appropriate services and resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families.

It essential that you have:

  • It is an essential operational requirement that this position be occupied by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person*
  • Approved tertiary qualifications in Family Therapy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Psychology, mental health, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the value of First Nations approaches to healing and wellbeing, and the ongoing impacts of colonisation underpinned by the recognition of First Nations concerted resistance and survival.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in building relationships with First Nations people and representatives.
  • Excellent experience and skills in leading service development activities within the youth mental health sector and leading the development and implementation of knowledge translation to support evidence-informed practice in youth mental health settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with clinicians, service providers, young people and families, and developing strong working relationships to support evidence-informed practice and continuous improvement in youth mental health services.
  • Experience in the provision of clinical and cultural supervision in mental health and social and emotional wellbeing contexts.
  • Solid understanding of inter-generational trauma for First Nations people.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to build meaningful and sustainable relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and leadership and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Capacity to travel interstate and/or remote and regional centre locations as required.
