Applications are invited for the non-ongoing full-time role of Community Liaison and Events Officer in the Office of Helen Haines MP. This role is based in Wangaratta, VIC or Wodonga, VIC.

This role will liaise with the Indi community on key policy and advocacy issues ensuring that the MP is visible, accessible, and engaged with constituents across the electorate. You will be joining a highly motivated team who are passionate about regional Australia, love what they do and work hard for their community.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused person who can work with a multidisciplinary team to connect community and constituents with their representative. You will be responsible for the MP’s strategic outings, coordinating events and engagement with her large and diverse electorate.

Key duties of this role involve, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate a community engagement plan in line with the Office Strategic directions including a range of high-impact programs and events with volunteers and the broader Indi community.
  • Develop and implement plans for the MP’s mobile office and visits in the community in collaboration with other staff and volunteers including working with the media adviser to ensure appropriate media coverage and notification to constituents,
  • Accompany the MP and manage any constituent enquiries when in the field.
  • Liaise with volunteers in local communities to ensure the MP’s engagement across Indi is effective and engaging and the volunteers’ expertise is valued to full effect.
  • Prepare high quality written content; including but not limited to event agendas, community events copy for the fortnightly newsletter, briefings and social media posts relating to local engagement.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, customer service and/or campaigning.
  • Fantastic interpersonal, communication and networking skills, including written communication, and consultation.
  • The ability to effectively plan and manage concurrent projects.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with communities with diverse needs.
  • Advanced time management and organisational abilities and a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities according to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative and work as part of a team.
  • Honest and reliable work ethic.
  • A passion for helping rural and regional communities to thrive.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a close, collaborative environment.
  • A sense of humour would be highly appreciated.

This position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023, which include:

  • A commencing salary between $69,046 - $73,098 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
  • An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for reasonable additional hours may be applicable.
  • Employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.

An initial probationary period is three months and may be subject to extension.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a National Police History Check.

The successful applicant will be required to comply with the relevant Draft Behaviour Standards and Code endorsed by both Houses of Parliament.
