The Harding Miller Education Foundation (HMEF) is an Australian not-for-profit dedicated to empowering high-potential disadvantaged young women through scholarships that provide critical resources, support and mentoring to succeed in their academic and personal lives. The Foundation was established in 2015, so will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2025. We currently support around 700 students in more than 300 schools across Australia, and we are growing!

The Harding Miller Education Foundation works with private philanthropists, individual and corporate donors, schools, families, Australian universities and other educational organisations to provide scholarships that create opportunity and choice for the scholarship recipients. ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and creative Communications Officer to lead and execute the foundation’s communications plan. In this role you will be responsible for creating and managing impactful communications to engage our key stakeholders, including scholars, donors, educators and the broader community. You will be responsible for creating content for and delivering digital campaigns, newsletters, social media and public relations to elevate the foundation’s mission and inspire our community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communication Plan: Deliver the communication strategy as set by the CEO and COO to increase awareness, engagement and support the foundation’s mission.
  • Content Creation and management: Develop and deliver the production of high quality and engaging content including articles, newsletters, social media posts, press releases and website updates, ensuring consistent branding and messaging.
  • Digital and Social Media Strategy: Design and deliver digital and social media initiatives to build awareness, engagement and support for the foundation’s mission.
  • Scholar Engagement: Collaborate with the team to create scholar surveys, analyse feedback and make recommendations to improve scholar engagement.
  • Stakeholder Communications: Manage communications with stakeholders including regular updates, impact reports and tailored content that resonates with donors, volunteers, alumnae and partners.
  • Events Communications: Support event planning efforts by developing communications for events and manage media and public relations for the events.
  • Report and Analytics: Track and report on key metrics, using data to assess the effectiveness of communication efforts and continuously improve strategies.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will bring a passion for storytelling and a proven ability to plan and execute effective communication campaigns; manage and deliver multiple projects. You are a creative and skilled communicator with an eye for detail and talent for building relationships with diverse audiences. You have a solid understanding of digital and social media best practices and how to craft compelling messages and build awareness in order to grow the foundation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in a communication role, preferably in the not-for-profit sector
  • Ability to translate the foundation’s goals and achievements into impactful communications.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing strategic communication plans
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling, with an eye for detail.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, with knowledge of analytics and reporting tools.
  • Media relations experience and established network (preferred).
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools, content management systems and survey tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • You will need a current NSW Working with Children Check for paid workers.
