Kalyuku Ninti – Puntuku Ngurra Limited T/A Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, resilient, adaptive team player to join our Social Programs division.  

This division is an integrated, place-based program which has several major social initiatives which address some of the challenges faced by Indigenous Martu.

You will be working in an exciting cross-cultural context with Martu of all ages and engage with a range of external agencies.

About KJ

“KJ is working with Martu to build strong, sustainable communities”.

KJ is an established, successful and highly-regarded Indigenous organisation based in the Eastern Pilbara town of Newman.  It has operated as an independent Martu company for 13 years and works in the remote communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji and Newman.

KJ is focused on three complementary objectives to:

  • support Martu to look after culture and country;
  • build a viable economy in Martu communities; and
  • build pathways for young Martu to a healthy future.

KJ staff are passionate, creative, committed and resourceful in the design and implementation of programs and activities, in partnership with Martu. KJ staff must be adaptive, consultative and able to listen to, understand and respect Martu views and attitudes.  

The duties of the role will include:

a) Work with all Martu people in the community to deliver relevant aspects of the suite of programs;

b) Provide leadership, mentoring and support for the Martu seeking employment opportunities within the programs;

c) Maintain a strong focus on developing and building capacity in Martu engaged in the program activities;

d) Provide advocacy support to Martu and facilitate video or telephones meetings with service providers;

e) Organise the planning and implementation of activities on-country, in community, Newman and the diaspora.

Skills and experience required:

  1. Bachelor degree in relevant area;
  2. Whilst not essential it would be advantageous to have community development or Indigenous experience;
  3. Desire – a genuine desire to work with remote communities to make a difference, a desire to learn and a willingness to acquire cross-cultural capability;
  4. People skills – the capacity to work effectively with a broad range of people;
  5. Communication skills – the ability to communicate in flexible, imaginative ways;

Location

The position is based in Newman, Western Australia.

Remuneration

A remuneration package consisting of a salary range of $73,029 to $85,917 plus superannuation, commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful applicant, will be negotiated. 

The position has generous conditions including rent, phone, salary packaging and generous annual leave.
