The role of the Community Development Officer/Outreach Worker is to work alongside communities to increase civic participation and health and wellbeing, particularly those on the Public Housing Estates in the local area of Highett/Hampton. The role also provides support and guidance to build and improve community engagement capability and document engagement processes.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise weekly Homework Club on Dunkley Estate, introduce activities on Ludstone St Estate.
- Develop relationship with Dunkley and Ludstone St Estate residents and build a demographic profile.
- Map the key workers/stakeholders on Estate.
- Oversee student placement for Social Prescription trial project
- Liaise/collaborate/develop relationships with Council, Office of Housing and other agencies and attend Community Development Participation meetings.
- Provide administrative support and relief as required.
- You may be required to perform other duties as directed from time to time to suit organisational requirements and which are broadly consistent with your role.
This role reports to the Manager of the Highett Neighbourhood Community House (HNCH)/Hampton Community Centre (HCC).
The applicant must be able to:
- Apply a broad range of community development and engagement processes and practices to assist HNCH/HCC and the community to identify and implement local priorities.
- Build relationships and networks with residents and community groups to encourage their participation in local activities and projects, with emphasis on hard to engage / disengaged residents to strengthen civic participation.
- Assist skill development of potential community leaders, volunteers, community groups and local representative working groups (committee) members.
- Work to develop, broaden and embed shared understanding of different communities, their challenges, needs and aspirations.
- Develop and monitor project plans and prepare funding submissions to deliver community projects identified by the community and defined in policy and plans.
- Monitor and provide advice on emerging and current community issues and proposed directions.
- Convene and resource working groups of Dunkley and Ludstone St estates.
- Create monthly newsletters.
- Provide quality, timely and accurate advice, information and reports as required.
Essential:
- Appropriate qualifications and experience in Community Development/Social Work/Youth Work
- Victorian Drivers Licence
- Working with Children Check
- Must have own vehicle to move between housing estates
