Holden Street Neighbourhood House is a friendly, welcoming, inclusive community space in the heart of North Fitzroy. We are a wholly not for profit organisation that provides educational, recreational and skills-based programs at low cost. We offer information, social support and food relief services that meets the needs of people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and cultures. We provide a safe place where people can meet others, develop skills and confidence and feel a valued member of their community.

We have volunteer positions available on the Committee of Governance.

Meetings are usually held on the 3rd Tuesday on the month from 6.30pm to 8pm.

Sub-committee meetings are usually held on Tuesday or Wednesday nights.

We seek local residents or people interested to support the work of Holden Street who identify as having these skill sets:

  • Skills and experience in Finance Management, Fundraising, experience with obtaining Deductible Gift Recipient status/PBI, Strategic Planning, Legal, Marketing, Communications , Education, Community Development & Local Businesses skills.
  • Ability (or interest to learn) to work cooperatively in a Committee of Governance

This presents an exciting opportunity to join the organisation as we embark upon the design of a new strategic development planning process.

Desirable

  • Governance experience ideally in incorporated community organisations
  • Interest in and understanding of community development principles and practice
  • Supportive of environmentally sustainable practices

On average, three to five hours a month - tasks include reading meeting documents, participating in committee and/or subcommittee meetings and providing strategic advice or other supports to the Manager.
