To help us on our mission to create a more and just supportive community, we are looking for a Communications and Engagement Officer who is passionate about social justice, skilled in event communication, adept at engaging with diverse audiences and is committed to advocating for solutions to end homelessness.

Position Overview

The Communications and Engagement Officer will play a vital role in helping Homelessness NSW build a movement to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring. By communicating effectively across a range of member and public channels, this position supports the mission of Homelessness NSW. Reporting to the CEO and working with contractors as needed, this role is essential for enhancing member and public engagement, as well as promoting the organisation’s initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Event Organisation: Plan and organise member events, including online and offline network forums, conferences, networking events and webinars.
  • Content Production: Develop and distribute high-quality content for member email alerts, presentations and newsletters.
  • Social Media Management: Plan and deliver engaging social media content.
  • Membership Engagement: Manage membership marketing and engagement in collaboration with the broader team.
  • Website Management: Oversee the production and uploading of content to the website in collaboration with the team.
  • Customer Relation Management: Maintain and manage the CRM system.
  • Reporting: Provide regular reports on member and public engagement.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure your actions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others and maintain a respectful workplace free from discrimination, bullying and harassment.
  • Other Duties: Undertake additional tasks, duties or projects as required by Homelessness NSW.

Your Qualification and experience will consist of:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or similar, or community development with relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in event organisation and management, including face-to-face and online events
  • Experience in customer service, member or stakeholder engagement
  • Proficiency in social media engagement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences and channels
  • Strong project management skills
  • Intermediate graphic design capability
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team and effectively with stakeholders
