HOPE has been a community service in Western Australia for over a century, providing much needed support to people affected by alcohol and other drugs, mental ill-health, youth justice issues and socioeconomic disadvantage.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior FDV Counsellor to join the Southeast FDV Healing Service team! The position is full time, fixed term working Monday to Friday.

About the Opportunity

The Family and Domestic Violence Senior Counsellor will provide expert therapeutic support to individuals, couples, and families affected by family and domestic violence. This senior role involves delivering advanced counselling services, developing and overseeing intervention plans, and providing leadership and guidance to other counsellors and staff within the FDV Hub. The Senior Counsellor will play a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality, comprehensive care for all clients.

Requirements of the Role:

Counselling and Support:

• Provide individual, couples, and family counselling to clients affected by family and domestic violence.
• Develop and implement advanced therapeutic interventions tailored to the unique needs of each client.
• Utilise evidence-based therapeutic approaches to address complex emotional, psychological, and behavioural issues.

Case Management:

• Manage a caseload of clients, ensuring regular follow-up and consistent support.
• Maintain detailed records of client interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling interventions and adjust plans as needed.

Leadership and Supervision:

• Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to other staff within the FDV Hub.
• Facilitate professional development opportunities and training sessions for staff.
• Lead case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss and coordinate care.

Collaboration and Coordination:

• Work closely with the FDV Hub team including Senior Safety Advocates, Safety Advocates, Lawyers, and other staff, to provide integrated services.
• Liaise with external agencies, such as schools, healthcare providers, and community services, to ensure holistic support for clients.
• Participate in community outreach and education initiatives to raise awareness about family and domestic violence.

Crisis Intervention:

• Provide immediate therapeutic support and intervention in crisis situations involving clients.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of clients during critical incidents and develop safety plans as needed.

Policy and Programme Development:

• Contribute to the development and review of policies, procedures, and programmes related to family and domestic violence services.
• Advocate for systemic changes and improvements within the FDV Hub and the broader community.

About you:

Education:

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field.

Experience:

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience providing counselling or therapeutic support to individuals, couples, and families, preferably in a family and domestic violence context.
• Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention, case management, and clinical supervision.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of the dynamics of family and domestic violence and its impact on individuals and families.
• Proficiency in using evidence-based therapeutic approaches and interventions.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Ability to build rapport and trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Proficiency in using case management software and other relevant computer applications.
• Empathetic and compassionate with a genuine commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by family and domestic violence.
• Resilient and able to work effectively in a high-stress, emotionally demanding environment.
• Collaborative team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Strong ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality and professional integrity.

Appointments will be subject to Australian residency/visa, satisfactory National Police check (within 3 months), Working With Children card, Current C or A class driver's license, and suitable work referees.
