Yintjingga Aboriginal Corporation, in Cape York, Queensland, are a homelands-based; community-driven, not-for profit organisation with the objective of improving the social, cultural, environmental and economic wellbeing of the Lama Lama community.
The Yintjingga Aboriginal Corporation operates the Lama Lama Ranger Program and focusses on the protection and promotion of their tradition and culture including natural and cultural resource management activities across the land and sea estate which takes in most of the Princess Charlotte Bay region located south-east of Coen.
The Land and Sea Program Manager is based at Port Stewart.
The role of the Land and Sea Program Manager is to:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the Lama Lama Ranger team to successfully complete their duties
- Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Lama Lama rangers
- Provide technical expertise to help develop, deliver and report on the annual weed, pest and fire action plans, along with funding commitments and obligations.
- Conduct compliance activities and plan and co-ordinate contingency responses such as search and rescue operations, wildlife incidents and wildfires as required
- Oversee logistical arrangements and data collection associated with all field work and scientific research
- Maintenance and repair of Lama Lama vehicles and vessels, plant and equipment
Requirements:
- Experience working in a management leadership role in a Ranger program or similar.
- Experience working with Cross Cultural Sensitivity having knowledge, respect for and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the issues affecting them
- Formal qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Environmental or Agricultural Science or a related field
- Extensive experience with practical, hands-on, field work associated Natural and Cultural Resource Management and experience working in community-driven NRM programs
- Unrestricted manual drivers licence is essential
- Extensive 4WD driving experience in remote areas is desirable
- Possession of a Coxswain Ticket and experience with Marine Operations is desirable
