The Role

Macarthur Legal Centre is a community legal centre based in Campbelltown, NSW, serving Southwest Sydney and part of rural New South Wales. Founded in 1987, it is a not-for-profit organisation funded by grants from the NSW and Federal Governments and donations.

Macarthur Legal Centre is seeking a full time dedicated and skilled professional to coordinate the South West Sydney Tenants' Advice & Advocacy Service (SWSTAAS). As the SWSTAAS Coordinator, you will lead a team committed to providing critical tenancy advice, advocacy, and community education to tenants in the South West Sydney region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of five, providing tenancy advice, conducting file checks, and coordinating casework meetings.
  • Identify and address the tenancy service needs within the community, developing strategic access solutions for tenants.
  • Lead community education efforts through workshops, forums, and training materials on tenancy issues.
  • Liaise with local services, regional networks, and state-level tenant services for coordinated service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with TAAP network best practices and maintain accurate data records on the TAAPS database.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to the Board, participate in strategic planning, and contribute to management activities within the MLC.
  • Provide direct tenant support through advice, casework, and representation at the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).
  • Develop innovative strategies to meet diverse community needs, including support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tenants, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Adhere to and promote the policies and procedures of Macarthur Legal Centre.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven team management skills and experience in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of community legal centre functions and social justice issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience in creating and delivering community education materials related to tenancy, housing, and homelessness.
  • Ability to maintain positive stakeholder relationships and manage external partnerships.
  • Relevant qualifications or significant experience in tenancy advice and advocacy.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Valid NSW Driver’s license and ability to use personal vehicle for work, with comprehensive insurance.
  • Current Working with Children’s Check and criminal records check.
