Playgroup Australia promotes the work of its members, advocates for greater investment in playgroup programs and manages important funding streams.

About the job

Reporting to the Board Chair, this is a flexible, fixed term contract role (12 months duration). We are seeking a proactive, pragmatic and professional General Manager to work collaboratively with our state and territory member organisations, and to lead the day-to-day operations of the business. The hours and days of work are flexible, as is the successful candidate’s geographic location, though excellent phone and internet connectivity are essential. Note too that some out of hours work (for Board meetings, for example) will also be required.

This is an exceptional opportunity for someone looking to take their next career step into a General Manager role in a small not for profit company and make a significant contribution to its success. It’s perhaps also a great opportunity for a seasoned General Manager or senior manager in a larger enterprise looking to apply their skills and experience in a more meaningful way.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with PA’s member states and territories, including knowledge sharing to enhance their skills
  • Manage Playgroup Australia’s contracts with the Australian Government and with the sub-contractors that deliver playgroup services, including developing and maintaining strong relationships, working closely with subcontractors and monitoring their performance, and ensuring government reporting is timely and accurate.
  • Collaborate with our consultants (RSM Australia) to develop reporting templates and schedules for contractual work.
  • Manage the Contracts and Tendering Consortium.
  • Manage the work of the Playgroup Australia Board and its committees, including drafting agendas and papers.
  • Lead a small team on a day-to-day basis

About you

You’ll have proven leadership experience at a senior level, including strong team and financial management experience. You’ll also have great communication skills and the ability to relate to people at all levels, accompanied by excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

You’ll have significant previous experience managing contracts and will likely have experience working with Federal government departments or agencies, ideally in the not for profit sector.

What’s in it for you?

We offer a flexible, family-friendly environment. The job will be primarily work-from-home, with the bulk of your contact with team members and key stakeholders online and by phone, though there is the potential to also work from one of the PA member state office locations on occasion. Hours of work are flexible (30 per week), across several days of the week. Additionally, we offer a competitive salary, around the $130K full-time equivalent rate per year (plus super).
