The Health Services Union is one of Australia’s fastest growing unions, with over 100,000 members. Our members are at the forefront of nation-changing initiatives such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and broader reforms to aged care and the public, private, and mental health systems. The HSU is comprised of eight autonomous branches and the role of HSU National is to implement the HSU’s national strategic campaigns and facilitate cross-branch coordination with a view to supporting membership growth and, by extension, the collective power of HSU members. Through this, we ensure that HSU members have a strong and powerful voice in the debates that shape their working and personal lives.
We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual who can highlight and communicate the campaign, policy and industrial work of the HSU to a mix of internal and external audiences. Working as part of a small team and reporting to the HSU National Secretary, the Media and Communications Officer will be responsible for building relationships with key journalists, managing campaign communications, creating professional and engaging content for both online and offline use, and working with HSU branches to support and enhance their work.

The successful applicant will be required to occasionally travel interstate and perform out-of-hours work.
The successful applicant must also be able to acquire a National Police Check.
This position is a 12 month parental leave contract available as full-time (38-hours per week, Monday to Friday) but we are open to a part-time arrangement with the right candidate.
