About the role:

The HSU is excited to recruit a permanent full-time Communications Officer to the Communications team of the HSU. This is an in-office position based at our Sydney CBD Head Office.

This role will be crucial in the creation of HSU communications materials across a range of media through writing, developing, and distributing newsletters, social media content, flyers, posters, and magazine articles.

This position plays a critical role in content creation, which often involves visiting worksites and meeting with organisers and delegates to capture photos and video to effectively communicate with HSU members, delegates, and staff.

The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator and adept in developing effective messaging to aid in HSU campaigns.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and distribute newsletters, collaborate with organisers and divisional managers to develop content including photography and copy for HSU publications and Unified Magazine.
  • Drive the development of creative content for the HSU’s social media channels and website.
  • Ensure all publications produced by HSU are to the highest standards, effectively and appropriately communicating with the HSU community.
  • Develop and maintain content for the HSU website.
  • Provide advice to and work with divisional secretaries to develop appropriate and innovative communication strategies and achieve HSU objectives.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of emerging trends in communications and social media.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Highly motivated with an ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High-level proficiency in software such as Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Extensive experience with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Excellent understanding and skills within the digital landscape, including creation, analytics and reporting.
  • Experience working in a high-volume, high-pressure environment supported by excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage and prioritise.
  • Demonstrated experience and sound knowledge of Press/Digital print production processes.
  • Confident in photo and video content creation and development.

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Communications, Visual Design, or equivalent industry experience.

Remuneration:

  • $82,702 - $104,540 (Dependent on relevant skills and experience) + 11.5% (12% for females) Employee Superannuation Contributions
