Born out of the role and value of sport and the influence the North Melbourne Kangaroos plays in connecting people across different ages, genders and cultures; The Huddle was established in 2010 as the community arm of the Club in partnership with the Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation.

It was established to engage, support and empower young people to build on their strengths, increase their ability to participate in society and contribute to more socially inclusive communities. The Huddle works with some of the most iconic sporting clubs in the world to help young people learn, grow and belong. Through the design of its innovative programs, The Huddle leverages the power of sport to strengthen social inclusion, education and careers for young people.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The AFL Development Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of the Kangaroos “Next Generation in Schools” program whilst working in close partnership with AFL Tasmania.

Reporting to the Head of Sport and Recreation, the Community Sport and Recreation Coordinator will be responsible for:

Activating and delivering high-quality Next Generation in Schools programs in schools, on time and on budget, in line with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Supporting the design, coordination and annual review of the Next Generation in Schools program, including branding, collateral distribution, equipment, etc
  • Working with AFL Tasmania to collate participation data and provide regular and timely reports as required
  • Maintaining an annual calendar of events for communication and reporting purposes
  • Supporting the promotion and integration of classroom-based activities and curriculum in schools
  • Building and maintaining partnerships and networks within the education sector
  • Increase Roo Squad membership opportunities for local communities
  • Coordinating weekend community festival activations and super-clinics
  • Assisting with AFL Community Camps in Tasmania and other Kangaroos player appearances throughout the year
  • Support the delivery of Kangaroos’ home games at Blundstone arena

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for an agile and proactive individual who has is passionate about increasing participation in AFL. The successful candidate will also have:

  • Coaching accreditation or experience in the field of sport/coaching/community development or similar
  • Experience in program delivery
  • An understanding of grass-roots community sport participation
  • Strong time management, planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong ability to facilitate cooperation and maintain external partnerships

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate is required to undergo and pass a police check, and hold a current and valid Victorian Working with Children’s Check.

Additionally, under the North Melbourne Football Club and The Huddle’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, all new employees must be fully vaccinated with an Approved COVID-19 Vaccine and provide Evidence of Vaccination by uploading your Digital Vaccination Certificate to our HR information system.
